He doesn't suck- he obviously isn't elite.... He needs a decent oline, a strong running game and playmakers.... If he has these I believe he can be a strong upper echelon QB.... The FO failed in their evaluation of coaches and players to support this kid. A good QB is hard to find in this league. I think we have a good QB. Teams don't regularly strike Gold with the Marino's, Brady's and Mannings of the world all the time...this team has a decent quarterback that can be a winner... However coaching, player evaluation and subsequent performance is ruining this.... Guards need to be addressed, playcalling and lack of awareness regarding the running game is horrible, game management decisions by the coaches has to be some of the worst I have seen...and there have been some horrible dropped passes this year... I think as well there is a not a lot of creativity in regards to having your playmakers get the ball, and the lack of strength on the opine has turned guys like Cameron from playmaker to pass protecting, not what he was brought here for...all in all I do not put this on Tannehill, the front office and coaches are inept. Tannehill has some very good skills and I think on some other teams, even in the AFC East (Jets and Bills) he would be in that upper echelon.... It is unfortunate, but this team personnel decisions have been awful and that is playing itself out in the ****ty season we are enduring.

Reminds me when Chad Henne just needed an O-line and Wide receivers.

Carson Palmer torched the Bengals with a rookie, a second year wideout that is barely 5'10 and Fitz.

Palmer would look like an All-Pro with these wideouts and running backs.

A 12 yr vet comparison with a 4?

Lets quit comparing Tannehill with Henne. Henne never showed half of what Tannehill has shown.
Im convinced that some fans would be giving up on Luck already.
Lets give Dion Jordon another chance at 6 million but we need to start Matt Moore over Ryan Tannehill.'
Jesus its laughable

The point is that everyone says that we need a better line. Palmer is pressured as much as Tannenhill is and still evades pressure at 500 years old.

Tannenhill has terrible pocket presence and its not something you can just change.

Great post. And he's still young, like damn we can't let him get a good team around him and at least have a damn chance to progress even more? Deep ball has gotten better, more or less still accurate most of the time when not being pursued (which happens to be most of the time) let him become a vested vet able to overcome a bad team around, so you guys think that Manning, Brady, Big Ben, Eli, Brees, Rivers, Palmer, and on and on just came in to the league and set it on fire? Could over come so much CRAP

I think his pocket presence needs to be better I will say that, but it can improve once he consistently can feel comfortable in the pocket which is rarely

But op, one thing you forgot to mention- the defense. They played well today but anyone who thinks we don't need many many players on defense is blind. I was happy we picked Parker and still hold out hope he can be our true #1 in a pro style offense next year. But you can't discount how much better we may look with say, Marcus Peters and Eric Kendricks. We easily could've moved up for him.

Tannehill needs what Dallas had on offense last year. The best offensive line in football, a stud receiver, and a safety blanket at tight end.

Not to mention a defense that consistently holds opponents under 20 points.

Good teams seem to have everything working at the same time, where Miami is lucky if it has one thing working well at one time.

Brady puts the ball where it has to go, and his receivers break tackles and run down the field.

Tannehill puts throws behind players and those players can't break tackles.

Holy ****...I agree with you!

Man you might get called negative a lot but you call it how you see it and isn't this the truth? Henne doesn't even come close to Tannehill. And funny you mention that about luck.... I've seen plenty of people bad mouthing him and such even suggesting trading him lol. Not the smartest bunch around me

I think Tannehill's got 2 major problems working against him, above all else.

1) He's not a natural QB.
He has not played at the position as long as many NFL QBs have. He lacks certain instincts in the pocket, he lacks awareness, evading the pressure, he's got a weak mental reflex of seeing the play unravel and reacting to make the most of it with his athletic ability and at-times very accurate arm.
He got better at his football IQ last year, where it seemed he was trying to get inside defense's heads with his running ability. Lately though, he's been very go-with-the-flow, not too much of a competitor and trickster on the field. This year has negatively simplified his game and made him easier to pick apart. He's taking more shots down field, but less when the game best calls for it on 2nd/3rd and long. You don't get first downs when you don't make a play that will get the ball there.

2) He's not much of a rebel.
If the coaching is terrible, well, he's probably going to fall in line on every play and be terrible too.
Saw it with not calling the timeout that the coaching staff didn't. See it all the time with refusing to change the play despite repeated bad matchups on the field, hell he never calls a timeout if it looks terrible right in front of him.
Again, just a go with the flow guy who's following orders, from guys newer at their job than he is.

I dont personally think the defense played that well today. The cowboys made plays when they had to and still rushed for 162 yards on us which is even above our crappy season average. We gave up our third most amount of rushing yards this year in a game.

Yeah, I mean they were their typical selves but in the first half id say they did decent

We called Henne a robot. Is Ryan a puppet? He cannot go to the line with anymore than 2 plays according to Lazor. He cannot call hot reads or react to the defense in front of him. He's on a leash. Now Lazor did say Ryan could run whenever he wanted and that concerns me. If he has the "Ok" to run and he is so athletic, why not more often? Why can he not roll out where he is deadly throwing the ball?
Ryan, Lazor, o-line, it's all confusing. It would be nice to sort these things out and let him play. It's confusing when it seems it shouldn't be. Marino was a pure passer. Go out and light it up. We have missed that.

They really made some good plays at times but were brutal on long third downs. Still not getting enough pressure and cant cover Te's

RT is not that young. He's 27 and in his peak yrs.
I've been a supporter of his until now. He's been the biggest disappointment because i expected continued development and it hasnt happened. He's plateaued as a starting QB.

Average NFL starter. A step above a Brian Hoyer or Fitzpatrick. I would take Carr, Winston or Marriota over him right now.

Tannehill has 2 problems, both are huge. He can't create in the pocket and can't feel the pressure and secondly he simply is a choke artist. Any big situation, 3rd and long, red zone, 4th quarter situations playing from behind and when he is deep in his own territory like the 5 yard line. He'll fail every time. Classic choke artist. It's really a shame because there is so much good. He's been hit too many times like the Carr kid in Houston. He shaky and twitchy in the pocket especially in big moments. He needs a big run game, a great o-line and don't ask too much more of him than to be a game manager and he'll be fine. Lazor's destroying him.
