Let's face it, guys. It's been a decade and a half of the same old **** and we need to try to rebuild this thing once again.

As it stands, we have $4 million in cap room for 2016, but we have the ability to bring that number into the 50s by cutting:
  • Cameron Wake,
  • Brent Grimes,
  • Branden Albert,
  • Jordan Cameron,
  • Koa Misi,
  • Earl Mitchell,
  • Brice McCain,
  • Jason Fox,
  • Dallas Thomas,
  • Walt Aikens

Information provided by http://overthecap.com/calculator/miami-dolphins/

Our significant pending free agents for 2016 are:
  • Derrick Shelby
  • Lamar Miller
  • Olivier Vernon
  • Rishard Matthews

Of those four, I'd imagine that Lamar Miller and Derrick Shelby are the most likely to be back. I have a feeling Rishard and Olivier will be a bit overpriced.

Positions of significant need (not specific order)
  • Cornerback (two)
  • MLB
  • Left Tackle
  • Guard (probably two)
  • Free Safety
  • Defensive End

Positions that can be upgraded (not specific order)
  • Quarterback
  • Running Back
  • Tight End
  • Outside Linebacker (opposite Jenkins)

2016 draft picks:
  • 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 7

Now, the big questions are:
  • Who will be the head coach?
  • Should we draft a quarterback in round 1?
  • Will the current staff be gutted in its entirety?
  • Will Stephen Ross finally sell the ****ing team? (half joking)
  • Will we have a top-10 pick?

Just felt like laying it out there.

I don't see them cutting Albert unless another injury occurs, Cameron, or misi. Wake I think they either get a paycut or trade his value may be a 5th at best for a situational pass rusher. Resign miller if he's not looking to get rich or outa here and Shelby fairly cheap. Matthews must hate Miami so he's out and Vernon may resign after free agency the realizes no one will pay him 10 or 8 mil a year. Can't dump everyone all at once and expect a fan base or be able to entice other fa to come here. Needs as I see
1. 3 guards holy crap maybe a large tree stump just anything
2. 2 new corners and I hope we switch to press man coverage this off coverage blows so much in dink and dunk NFL
3. Middle linebacker would make a huge difference
4. Left tackle who stays healthy if we keep Albert at least a decent swing tackle
5. 2 pass rushing de or by some miracle 1 if a firework show goes off in Dion Jordan's butt and he plays the game
6. Fs its so sad seeing Jones back there next to just hot garbage each week

Most importantly competent coordinators and head coach who play to players strengths, fit schemes to the players and not square peg a round hole. Honestly that's my interview is one of those damn put the block through the whole games seems like most of our coaches the last 15 years would have failed it.

Why do we have to cut Albert? Has he had a non-contact injury or one that comes from being generally broken-down like Jake Long? Dude's a good player and looks as spry and solid as ever since the bye-week. I'm paying that guy because it would take a top 5 draft pick to replace him. We won't lose enough to draft there and it would take a year for the draft pick to be as good as Albert is now.

I don't see how a 'tear-down' will help Miami. You'd have to hit big on every draft pick just to get back to where we are now, 8-8 land. Forget That!
I think there's talent on the roster. We do have good starting 5 offensive linemen,IMO. Thomas has done OK at guard. Not great, but OK and gets the job done when the tackles are healthy. Jason Fox sucks, but you can upgrade at 'back-up' without breaking the bank.
We need a Luke Keuchly to help Jelani Jenkins. Misi could be upgraded without a ton of expense, as well, IMO.
With our draft picks, I think we can upgrade enough to be good enough next year.

I think we have defensive linemen that could play either 3-4 or 4-3. Either way we need another pass-rusher and 2 linebackers, so if we have a DC who favors 4-3, then we draft those need positions accordingly, or vice-versa.
I also think that if we have James, Pouncey and Albert and, IMO, Billy Turner, we have players that we can run any scheme with. If we're gonna be 'power-running' then we need an upgrade over Dallas Thomas. If we're gonna be a motion-running team, then maybe Thomas can be good enough. By next year, maybe, Jamil Douglas will be at least as good as Thomas and can replace him.
Outside of any of this, I don't think our roster is 'scheme-dependent'. I think our RBs can run no matter what, I think our WRs can make plays no matter what, and I think our TEs can make plays no matter what.

Just my opinion.

I agree with a lot of that. It's not even a rebuild we're just cutting a lot of dead weight. I'd love a lot of aggressive cuts to be made on this roster. Totally agree that Shelby and Lamar are the most likely to be re-signed with the other 2 being overpriced/undertalented.

Don't think grimes will be cut as we'll likely hold on to him a year too long and wait for the situation to be a complete disaster before cutting the cord. Personally, I'm not in a huge rush to cut Branden. Rather not unless there's an excellent alternative. Cameron I'd be happy to bring back at a cheaper contract. Other than that the other cuts wouldn't even be felt there's so much useless on this team. Aside from wake of course who I think we'd all love to bring back on a min contract.

With the upcoming draft class CB, MLB could definitely be very well addressed in early rounds. There are a lot of holes to plug though and we need more foundational players to build around. Right now it's Landry, Suh, maybe Lamar and Reshad. Not only are we thin on depth but few of our frontline players are all that far to the front from a leaguewide perspective.

of the 10 cuts above, no one breaks my heart. cut them all

Is there a trigger for auto payment for Wake since he is injured? I ask because the Redskins wont play RG3 because of the cap next year

I would not drop Albert until you've got a LT because if you don't you're creating another huge hole. We need to add to the online and bring in guards while keeping only Pouncy Albert and James. The rest are all just bodies.

James can play LT right? I dont think Albert can stay healthy for the long run.

Couple of things before I play this game....moving forward I keep Ryan Tannehill, while I think he lacks certain qualities I want in a QB, I do realize that nothing is Guaranteed and he is better then average and can win with a good team around him. So my thought on what to do are based on the fact RT will be the QB.

First I explore trade options....if I intend to cut these players anyways I see what teams are willing to offer...

With that said...Grimes, Wake, Fox, Thomas can go....

I like Mitchell as a rotational guy, and he's not over priced...Cameron as well...

Koa Misis isn't a great player, but he;s not bad either...would be fine if we upgraded the mike.

Vernon can go...I don't even consider offering him.
Miller and Matthews will depend on price and the development of Ajayi and Parker...if both show they can be NFL players on the same level...I go ahead and roll with the younger guys. Shelby I try to keep...would be reasonably priced and is a good rotational guy.

Positions of significant need (not specific order)
  • Cornerback (two)
  • MLB
  • Left Tackle
  • Guard (probably two)
  • Free Safety
  • Defensive End

All are positions that should be addressed...though I would argue only one guard is really needed...

LEFT Tackle...I would say more of a swing guy that is groomed to take over to Albert...I hoped Turner would be that guy.

Safety and CB...**** yes, Jesus is that a ****ty group.

Sad thing about DE...is we tried to fill it, but with poor drafting...

Positions that can be upgraded (not specific order)
  • Quarterback
  • Running Back
  • Tight End
  • Outside Linebacker (opposite Jenkins)
I said I don't touch the QB position, but I do look for a mid round guy to play backup and compete..

RB...I would even look until 2017 when you have a **** ton of top end talent coming out.

OLB...if you upgrade the Mike you can live with Misi and Jenkins....but only if you upgrade the Mike

2016 draft picks:
  • 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 7

Not much to work with...

I do think defense has to be the picks in rounds 1 and 2

Now, the big questions are:
  • Who will be the head coach?
  • Should we draft a quarterback in round 1?
  • Will the current staff be gutted in its entirety?

1. Who knows....but my gut says Mangini...
2. No
3. Should be
4. No
5. Yes

Instead of cutting Albert, why don't you draft behind him and acquire a Swing Tackle?

Instead of continuing to be satisfied with acquiring 1 or 2 players a year to address 4 or 5 holes on OL, why don't you, for once, spend enough resources to fill the holes with proper talent?

LB, CB and OL have been getting worse each year for many years. Instead of get 1 at each position then pouring additional resources into the same positions (DL & WR). We're not spending enough resources in the middle of the field. The bigger problem is the net effect of the resources we are acquiring on OL, CB and LB. They are not starter material.

Next year we need at LEAST a STARTING RG, LG, 2 LBs and 2 CBs. We also need a future LT. And we need at least 1 Swing Tackle. And that's just part of our problems.

The reality is half of this list is a tall order for any GM. The other issue we have is we have a boat anchor on D that has simply hamstrung us for many years to come.

Tannehill haters want to complain about his contract. We are not paying anything close to elite money for Tannehill and YOU HAVE TO HAVE A QB. But you don't NEED the richest DT in NFL History. No one talks about the real elephant in the room. Suh has literally wrecked our future roster.

How many starters could we have paid with Suh's money? Let's have that discussion. Instead of excusing it with the "we have to cut 'this guy' and 'that guy'" in order to accomodate Suh's contract.

What has done? Where is his $100+M impact on the field? He might get double teams, but we also DEPEND on him getting double teams. If he wasn't here, we could have schemed differently to compensate with a much smaller contract.

Let's not mistake... we are paying him ELITE money. A once in a generational DT should not have less impact on his team than a non-pro bowl DT in the same league in the same year.

The real problem with our roster is Suh. It's time for the Tannehill haters to get more on point with the criticisms of this team. If you pay a man the most money at his position, he should be on the highlight reel every game. He should be changing the outcome of the game. He's not. Spend the rest of the year trying to defend Suh as much as you attack Tannehill.

This is not a Tannehill discussion. This is a discussion to pinpoint the problems on our team. One of the biggest problems is we have many holes and insufficient resources to address them. We have once again spent too much money on a player who has wrecked our salary cap. We are effectively in a rebuild mode by default. We have an insuffucient number of starters, lack quality depth and no not have a permanent coaching staff.

Tannehill's contact is not an issue. Suh's contract is a major problem.

And like it or not, we are about to see wholesale changes. This is about to be blown up.

Prepare to wait at least 3 more years before we have a chance to be relevant again. Then be prepared to wait at least 3 more when we fire Tannenbaum and start over... again. Welcome to Dolphinland. Where good enough is more than enough for us.

The first person I would cut is Walt Aikens.

He's terrible.

Just felt like laying it out there.

As of right now Dolphins pick 11th in the draft.

If the Dolphins intend on a rebuild...truly rebuilding and not saying they don't need to rebuild just add a few pieces as has been the story for the last 5 or 6 seasons, then cut them all with the full expectation of being a 1-5 win team next year....and you better make sure you have the right staff in place for a true rebuild. A HC that can spot and develop talent and has a clear plan with a solid staff that knows how to develop talent and coach as well. If you intend to bring in a Mangini or Todd Haley then you're screwed from the start. Neither knows how to develop talent or spot it for that matter.

If the plan is to overhaul and not rebuild then you can't cut all those players without a plan A, B and C to replace them with players that will fit the new coaches scheme. We made the mistake of signing Suh (thanks Tannenbaum) without him fitting Coyle's scheme so you either need to find a defensive coach that can scheme for your highest paid player or you continue to throw money down the toilet like we've been doing with all the high priced free agents we continue to sign...none of which have fit the scheme except Albert who just can't stay healthy enough to play 16 games in a season.
