Well, that didn’t take long. After getting lauded for his work ethic throughout camp, Reggie Bush was criticized at length in a column Tuesday morning in the Miami Herald. Saints fans are rather familiar with the trend: A big August followed by an underwhelming September.Bush’s numbers weren’t that bad. He had 11 rushes for 38 yards and caught nine passes for 56 yards, including a garbage time score. The problem was more that Bush failed to make any big plays when he had the chance and had too many runs that didn’t go anywhere. (His last nine carries got 18 yards.) He also wasn’t an option in goal line situations, where the Dolphins were stuffed a few times. One arm tackle by Albert Haynesworth on Bush was perhaps the most telling play. Miami didn’t try to run Bush inside after that.“The apparent truth is that Bush really wasn’t built for this, even if you wanted to believe otherwise, and I, like many, did,” Israel Gutierrez wrote.http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/09/13/the-reggie-bush-criticism-starts-early-in-miami/

Bush was fine running inside. People look at his stats and think he wasnt effective, but he had 2 nice inside runs called back for penalties. Bush was exactly what we expected him to be, and we never expected him to carry the ball 20-25 times a game.

i think people are getting alittle too critical about every play he makes or doesnt make. The fact is he is not going to get 20 carries a game and our o line is mediocre at best. Look at last season for all the people screaming "we should have signed ricky/ronnie back". The team totaled less then 4 yards a carry with them last year. Atleast bush adds huge play making ability in the passing game unlike r&r. If the oline can block alittle better and not get two good runs called back cuz of penalties he would have had a better night. And the fact that we are going to turn into a pass first team means we may only run the ball about 35-40% of the time anyways. Reggie will be fine as long as he stays healthy.

It was one game.....he wasn't the problem. Reggie Bush doesn't cover wide receivers or rush the quarterback.

daboll wasted downs running bush inside so much...yeah we popped one for like 12 yards the first possession but after that the pats made adjustments and it was no soup for you the rest of the night with bush inside...waste of downs

you can't blame reggie bush for these guys trying to make him into something he's not...a downhill b/t the tackles rb...

The Miami Herald is the biggest joke in South Florida when it comes to sports. The Sun-Sentinel has always been superior, even before the internet and it hasn't changed now.

Armando has a new flunkie under him named Israel Gutierrez, thats all this is. Bush had a good game, he isn't gonna take it to the house every play. He had a crazy nice block in the 4th quarter on a Henne scramble and he made a great effort on the TD. He did more in the inside running game last night than Ricky and Ronnie did all of last year. Give me a break.

We wouldn't have been able to run with Emmit Smith back there. It was painfully obvious that we can only run inside. We tried running some outside plays and there were no blockers out there...our Guards can't get there fast enough. We're stuck running inside and the Pats recognized that pretty early.

The sad realization of how poor this oline is. You almost have to give Jerry and Garner tries don't you? They would atleast increase the athleticism of this Oline.

Long-Pouncey-O'hara-Jerry-Garner . . . that is a much more athletic oline IMO. Miami has gotta figure something out here.

no doubt...we're slow and stiff at guard and right tackle...but you aren't gonna get enough push inside against the wilforks and the other tough nosed inside players in this league running reggie bush inside...it won't happen...we wasted downs...i know you got to run it some to keep em honest but reggie bush going forward shouldn't be the guy

and whoever called that fade to brian hartline on 4th down...seriously...if i was henne and that play came in my headset i'd look to the sideline and tell em to **** off...what a waste of a play...why in gods green earth would you ever throw a fade to soft *** brian hartline...i don't care if its the single coverage read or not...**** that...terrible call...i don't even know why you line hartline up and have him even run it...its a damn joke

our inability to run the ball on the goalline is gonna doom us...just a matter of time

If Reggie Bush has such a limited and specialized skill set that not even Sean Payton can find a way to make him viable, did anyone really expect Tony Sparano and Brian Daboll to do it?

Really?

In the 2nd quarter Bush was already slapping his helmet while he was behind Henne before the snap. This was after only his 8th carry. Bush was trying to get himself pumped as he was already looking a bit winded and a step or two slower than he did during the first drive.. He also looked like he got the wind knocked out of him a bit from a run inside, and maybe that's why he kept slapping his helmet before that snap (to wake himself up). He wasn't very explosive on the next play and kind of went in slow motion.

Clearly he is not close to being an every down back and should only be used sparingly (on 3rd downs and maybe a few outside only runs, but not more than 10 carries or he's done). It's no secret that after the 1st quarter he was a non factor last night and didn't look like the same explosive player after the early part of the game.

At this rate Reggie Bush will be out and injured before week 6. He is just not built for that pounding he took last night on a week to week basis during the course of a season... as I said many times here right after the trade. It just shows how Sparano is clueless as a coach to think Bush can be an every down player game to game and week to week with all those inside runs they call for him.

And not to mention Bush has very poor vision inside in tight traffic. You saw on a few occasions where he ran right to where the defender was blocked and moved to by the offensive line, instead of taking the open lane. On one occasion it was quite blatant as Pouncey drove Wilfork to the left and Bush went to the left as well right into wilfork's shoulder pads for a loss of one instead of going right behind Pouncey's Butt to the right where the clear and open hole was.

That was an easy 5 or 6 yard gain if Bush had any sort of vision in traffic. But he doesn't. He only has vision in wide open spaces which is why he's strictly an outside runner and receiver. But the problem with that is defenses know this and they overload the outside when Bush is in the game.. and this is partly why his yards per carry average is so poor on grass during his career (it's lower than 3 yards per carry on grass for his career)

Yes, we all know Ronnie Brown would have done a much better job inside as shown by his stats in his 1st game against NE last year. 11 rushes for 27 yards and 4 catches for 29 yards. :rolleyes2:

I don't know, the game I watched Reggie did just fine in, not great or stellar but pretty good. He had a couple of gains taken back by penalty but we also didn't really use him the way we thought we would to confuse defenses. I thought we would utilize he speed better by using the swing out passes and lined up as a receiver on occasion it was like we were just keeping it all simple for some reason and holding something back. The one point where we should of kept things simple and pounded it into the endzone on 4th and goal at the 1 we passed. Not the greatest call or the best of passes either and in the end sealed our fate which up until that point was still in our hands to go out and take. The very next play our gimpy defense is told to blitz Brady with all except 2....WoW who's call was that? That person should be fired by now, absolutely horrendous call when we still had time to come back in this one, just god aweful call. There's still no doubt our O-Line right side needs immediate help but what happened to our self proclaimed "Best cornerback tandem in the league" and many of our other defensive players out there in the heat is just inexcusable, this is suppose to be "OUR ADVANTAGE" and don't tell me the hurry-up they were looking beat after their second series out there. I hope they give them extra time outdoors and extra hours to get acclimated to their hometowns weather because they sure looked like a team that's been practicing within an air conditioned facility or someones not been doing their job on getting our boys ready.

Unless of course you're Sparano and Co. then you not only expect him to run 20-25 times a game but also man the concession stand at half time

Reggie bush got a combined almost 100yds and a TD That is all to expect out of him. I would like to see him break at least one more big play a game. Reggie is a 50 rush yd 50 rec yd back.
