NFL | A couple of teams call on Konrad
Sun, 16 Apr 2006 06:57:06 -0700

Nick Cafardo, of the Boston Globe, reports former NFL FB Rob Konrad retired from football last season to devote time to his Boca Raton, Fla., investment firm. But Konrad said he has received a couple of offers to return to the NFL. ''It would have to be a perfect situation, something that really jazzed me up to come back," he said. He was hoping Norv Turner would come to Miami, but instead he wound up in San Francisco. Konrad always got along with Turner and were "always on the same page," according to Konrad.

Was interested in finding out whatever happened to Rob Konrad, and stumbled upon this article. It's just about a year old...

Anyway, I always liked Konrad. He still has a residence and business in FL. Anybody think there's a chance Cameron/Mueller might try to convince him to make a comeback?

Why would they want to? He never played like the FB everyone thought he could be before all the injuries. Now that he's older, I doubt he would be all that good. Besides, we already have Sledge and Eckel.

I don't see it happening now that they brought in that other guy from Detroit.

Do you mean as RB coach?

Konrad was a great interviewer and team spokesperson. Drafted in 1999, Rob was an underachiever in college but at 6'4" and 255lbs running a 4.6 40, he got drafted on measurables alone. He always looked great in the minicamps catching passes looking big and fast, and every year the theme was: "let's get Konrad more involved in the offense". He got nicked up a lot and just like in college, never accomplished much as a pro. But he's frequently sought after on radio as an ex-player good at criticizing the current Dolphins.

I am from the Cuse originally and watched him play for 4 years in college. I was so happy when the fins drafted him and to this day still remember his 1st NFL touchdown which came against the Colts. He was a great fullback, but injuries kept him off the field. He had that one bad recurring back injury that he needed surgery for and was never the same after that which was the reason he retired. I do not see him coming back into the league ever

I think I read that he said he had to stretch his back for almost an hour just so he could practice. He always played so "stiff"... I doubt he could last a season.

dude konrad was one of my fav players im all for bringing back a familiar face, this is the excitement i got like when they said tim bowens might come back to play D tackle for us but he didn't

I have a Rob Konrad game worn jersey that he autographed sitting in my closet. I'll make anybody a deal if they want.

I think he retired from football because of back problems. He had high hopes comming out of college, but was an underachiever in the NFL. Back problems or whatever, he never smash a linebacker.

Good guy who never lived up to expectations, at least not mine.
