The Ricky Situation doesn't make any sense

I've really already covered the reasons why. Having a fresh start. I'd rather he be on another squad if he wants his. For now I want my Fins to end that chapter in their lives and move on.

So your rebuttal is based upon emotion? No wonder you set me off!

Sheeesh. No man. I don't want him on my team because we got our runningback.........and he's not dependable. Not too mention a whole slew of other age/injury related crap I mentioned.

Oh please. The only thing going on here is a huge difference of opinion. You're just too upset to be civil because I won't lay down to your stance.

So wait what happened with all that "You got owned" garbage you were spewing at me? Right. You were being civil.

Uh....dude..take two steps back from the ledge. I repeat take two steps back from the ledge. I was trash talking. Thats all. It happens all the time when two people discuss sports. I wasnt upset. I wasnt angry. I just stated that your basis for this discussion is weak. Flimsy. In the court of law it would be called circumstantial. Your entitled to your opionion..but if you offer it up in a thread..be prepared next time to defend it. You have had nothing of substance to say. Sorry...but...You Got Owned.

Here's a list of all the reasons Ricky came up with why he quit:

1. Didn't have the passion for it anymore
2. Wanted to be able to smoke weed freely
3. Didn't like our coach and most of our offensive coaching staff
4. Wanted to find himself
5. Thought there was more to life than football
6. Didn't want to take the physical pounding anymore
7. It was a game everyone else wanted him to play, not himself

...............it was an abundance of reasons. Not just being embarrassed for getting hit up for smoking pot.

I dont think Saban cares what Ricky did, he wasnt with us, that part was out of his control..Now that its in his control he will do whatever he wants and feels is best for this team.. I HATE what Ricky did but I think Sabans thinks that he has some value to the team..All I do know is that I hate losing and whatever it is going to take to bring this team back to playoff contention I'm all for it.. Sabans first test was the draft---Passed flying colors--I have faith in him for the 2005 season, do we have a choice..No..This is all we have time to move forward, Come june 1st the Ricky talk-(good or bad)- will be over!!..Let's Roll

Here's the way I see it...

First, Saban's flirtation is directed to recoup any possible value we might get from him, whether that be playing for us or being traded. Assuming (yeah, I know big assumption) that RW wants to come back, is allowed to come back, conforms to the league rules (drug program), gains back the muscle mass he has purportedly lost, works out a contract, etc, etc...here is how I see things happening...

He will come back in SC and have to work his way into shape, while continuing to gain back the muscle mass and get into "football" shape. He will (by all accounts) be suspended for the first 4 games. This will give him another month to continue to work back into shape. When he is reinstated from the suspension, he begins to share time with Brown..more than likely on 1st or 2nd down and mop-up time. This takes the load off of Brown. By late November, RW should be pretty much back to where he should be physically and can handle more of the RB load. Also at this time, Brown is starting to hit the rookie wall (beings his college season would for all intensive purposes be over except the bowl game). This allows Brown to ease into the last month of the season and regain his legs (and hopefully be fresher for the postseason).

Now...by the end of the season, RW has played in about 12 games, with a more substatial role towards the mid and end of the season...he will have shown that he has the desire again and regained respect around the league and some lost value for a possible trade after the season.

Of course, this is all speculation and wishful thinking on my part. This would be the absolute best case scenario for us and for RW...He gives us some quality play during the 2005 season, regains some respect around the league and we can then get better value for him...

This may be the scenario that Saban is thinking of as well. There are certainly a lot of things that are flawed with this situation, but this would be the best case for the Fins (and RW)...he repays the debt to the Fins and has some bargaining value with another team.
Interesting well thought out views, I agree it's just speculation but this may very well be the case.
