Good thing Ricky Williams already went with the bald look.
Now he won’t have to worry about violating another NFL rule.
The Chiefs have proposed implementing a rule to prevent players from letting their hair flow down to their jersey nameplates.
The proposal seems innocuous enough and is frivolous compared to larger issues such as looming labor strife and HGH testing. But long hair was among the most talked about possible rule changes Sunday at The Breakers resort in Palm Beach, where the NFL is gathering this week for its annual owners meetings.
Steelers safety Troy Polamalu — Chiefs running back Larry Johnson yanked him down caveman style by his hair last year on an interception return — and other hirsute players would have to tuck it, shear it or tape it to comply if the rule is adopted.
Chiefs coach Herm Edwards insisted it’s not a cultural issue, but one of a uniform code.
Hair is considered a part of the uniform, as outlined in the so-called “Ricky Williams Rule,†which allows players to be tackled by their manes just as they would be their jerseys.
