Bad year for #1.

If the Dolphins were running a 4-3, having Glen Dorsey sitting there would be godsend.

Every draft has talent, it's needs versus scheme.

Are you implying that Tim Tebow is (or would be) worthy of the #1 overall pick?

Most scouts don't think he's going to be a very good pro, you can't run the wishbone or the option in the NFL.

I agree it's a bad year to be #1 though....the same as 2005 when it was a bad year for #2.

We've had really bad luck in terms of draft positioning....we're at the top when the draft is deep but there's no "elite" talent (when it would be better to pick late and have multiple picks)....and we're picking late in years when there's a huge drop off in talent after the top 10 picks.

I agree with Mel Kiper that we should take Dorsey and build our defense around him.

It's not as if this Parcells/Sparano version of the 3-4 has been here for years. There's no good reason we can't run a 4-3 or a hybrid and make Dorsey the centerpiece, since he is the best player available.

Don Shula changed from a run-based offense to a pass happy offense when he got Marino.

You should build a system around your talent, not try to find talent that can fit your system. That's how teams get into trouble.

I would take Tim Tebow #1 right now if he were allowed to enter. I don't know about next year, but right now, absolutely. I'm really excited to see what that QB from Illinois...Juice something...I'm excited to see what he does next year. And I think Sam Bradford was a redshirt, but I'm not sure. If he was, I'd look at him at the top if he chose to leave. Still, both could be horrible next year.

I fully agree with your insightful assessment of our bad luck in the draft. That's absolutely correct.

Well, how many #1's have turned out to be the real deal in the past when the draft was top heavy? I dont think it is all that great of a stat.

My point is that you never know who is going to be great in the NFL. THis year may look weak now, but in a few years it may look like the best draft in the last decade.

hahahahahahaha, would probably post his articles in the wrong magazines though like this one is posted in the wrong forum.

I took it down the wrong road, but it started out more as a "luck of the franchise" thread, and not so much about "the draft."

My bad for mentioning the Illinois and Oklahoma QBs.

Thanks for the kind words, though.

I disagree, there's been better years, but this isn't a "bad year" I think 05 was worse then this year for the number 1 overall.

Well, are Chris Long and Vernon Gholston better than Shawne Merriman?

Probably not.

Maybe not better than Demarcus Ware either.

Those were picks #12 and #11 there.

Who knows who's gonna be worthy this year. Hopefully the most worthy player in retrospect ends up going #1, and not not #12 like in '05.

There's no telling if Jake Long is gonna be better than Jammal Brown. Brown is a great LT.

Is there a better receiver than Braylon Edwards in this draft?

Is McFadden better than Ronnie Brown?

I think this is probably the worst of the two drafts.

IMO the draft class is just fine. I think saying it is weak is an excuse for failure. Out of all the players in the draft you cant tell me there wont be a few to be multi-year probowlers. We already used the "weak draft class excuse when Ronnie was picked. Good talent evaluation is whats needed, the raw material is there.

And no to Tebow.
