is it just me, or have we gone safety happy?

we just signed crocker, already have:

Bell, allen,hill, davis, worrell.

that makes 6 safeties deep. does anyone think this is too many? esp with our issues at corner.
I understand these maybe good Special teamers, but i think we are ok at Safety for now. Quantity not quality however.

Im still hoping we get a good CB is the 2nd round

Safties and especially 2nd and 3rd string make great Special team players. They have some good speed to get downfield and can tackle. Alot of those guys wont be competing to start. Expect to see their names on kickoffs/return and punting/return duties. We are pretty set already with our starters for now.

After last season, this team can't have enough safeties.

Out of those guys that you mentioned: Bell, Hill and Worrell are coming off of major injuries. So I'm assuming some depth until they at least get back into playing shape is also some consideration at these signings.

Bell and Allen will probly be the Top 2 Safties we have Next year and Davis will back up Y. Bell

3 of the safeties we have are coming off of very serious injuries. Worrell and Davis are better ST players than they are starters, and Hill is IMO a better 3rd safety than a starter.

This is Jason Allen's year . . . he is at the position we all wanted him at . . . he showed some play making ability last year . . . and at times was CLEARLY the most athletic player on our defense . . . he was everywhere.

Now I will say this . . . he looks like he may be better suited as a SS the way he plays the run . . . but his measurables and athletic ability suit up more as a Ed Reed type FS . . . and that can get tricky because I don't want him to be a liability in pass coverage because of his "over" agressiveness on the run. I remember his first year he was biting on every little fake and would get beat deep . . . if that has improved . . . the kid has Pro Bowl potential.

Either way, I think EVERYBODY feels more comfortable with him at FS this year than they did last year . . and with a healthy Bell back, we have a nice little safety tandem and FANTASTIC depth with Hill, Davis and Crocker.

You left out Jereme Perry who we signed last November.

I have to agree with Kdogg about Jason Allen he showed real promise and looks to be developing into a decent starter. As far as Cameron Worrell I don't want that piece of garbage to wear a Dolphins uniform ever again. He can't cover worth a damn and he got plenty of special teamers now that he is expendable.

We needed Crocker he could start for us. Look Davis is a ST guy, J Allen the jury is still our on, Hill is IR, Bell is IR thats your possible starters. Everyone else is ST or holdovers from Cam that will probably be training camp fodder. So right now if you line your starters up its Crocker and Allen with Hill, Bell as backups with Davis for depth!

Dude we got Crocker? had no idea but I like it...another hard nosed player i remember him laying some wood on somebody. with that signing i think we let worell go

safties are great ST guys. they are fast and know how to tackle. them and LBs are really good

This draft is very weak at S, so we're loading up on FA's hoping that one or two of them can prove to be solid acquisitions. I think Jason Allen is looking like a real keeper now. Bell has the talent, but he's too brittle, so we need at least 1 more SS to take over when he's injured. When you can't have quality, then quantity is the next best thing. :( I'm hoping Crocker or Daniels proves to be servicable.

The good news is that this is a great CB draft, and we should add 1 or 2 keeper CB's via the draft, likely 1 starting caliber and take a flyer on a late round kid with potential. Will Allen and maybe 1 other CB are a decent start, but we really lack talent in the secondary, so it looks like we'll dip into FA for our S and the draft for our CB's. Good call IMHO.
