The Sheffield catch/drop

I hate the NFL rules. That was a catch all day every day. I understand you can't write "when you know if you know it" as the rule for a catch, but he caught that ball. Everyone knows it except the silly rules.

it looked like he had it, then was touched by the defender (so is the play over right there) but i guess he has to SURVIVE the ground.

when i played 40 years ago in the school yard that was a catch... lol

I know this is unpopular, but I wish they'd just make the rule, if the ball touches the ground, it's incomplete.
We shouldn't have to have to have so much debate to figure out what a freaking catch is. It should be one of the simplest things to figure out, but the NFL wants scoring, so they convolute something simple and make it impossible for people to figure out to serve their purposes.
Can't we reserve vagueries of definitions and interpretations of rules for pass interference? Isn't that enough?

Can someone tell me why the refs stoped Miami from hiking the ball quickly after the so called catch? They allowed SF to watch the replay. I’ve never seen this happen before. We scored a td in that drive anyway but I was going nuts.
I don't know. There was some distinct favoritism for the 49ers in every way possible including the announcers. I've never heard one-sided ball chortling like that. Also, they were SO quick to put Tua on a spit and start driving some anti Tua narrative. The guy had a bad game. It sucks. Next game is in 6 days. Strap in.

They stopped the snap as they got a buzz from NY. Happens a lot anymore. NY (sky judge) reviews EVERY PLAY.

The sad thing is in 2022 the NFL and fans still do not know what a catch was. This never happened in the 90s or before. They have gotten this rule better than a lot of the other rules but still is a joke at least 3 times a week people are questioning what a catch is in an 11+B industry.

What’s worse is they STILL cannot accurately spot a football and rely on taped chains to figure out what 10 yards is. Instead of utilizing all the technology available to them.

That's the way it used to be. Then people thought it was ridiculous that a guy could have complete control of the ball with no movement upon contact and it would be ruled incomplete. I actually prefer the current version of the interpretation and I would've been fine with the call if we could actually see the ball touch the ground there, but I didn't think that was the case. We saw the ball move, but I couldn't definitively say that his hand wasn't under it unless there was a camera angle we didn't see b/c they were too busy showing a commercial.

This is not college football, the head coach has to throw the red challenge flag, unless it's scoring play, a turnover, or under 2 min left in the half, or the game. NY does not buzz down for anything else.

The announcers were nauseating for sure...

Go read the link. Except they do. When they see clear evidence they can change any call. Have you not watched a game this year?

“Now, they can proactively assist in situations where clear and obvious video evidence is quickly available to assist the on-field officials on objective rulings.”
