They would not have gone ahead with that if the did NOT think they were in the money ballpark to complete the Brees deal. They know by now what Brees will look for and there is no indication that there is a problem as of yet.

If they don't sign Shelton, it's a sign of uncertainty as to whether they can scrape up enough to still get Brees.

Ah, I think we needed a LT, with or without Brees, for who ever is back there. Obviously Shelton didn't try to take the whole bank and probably wanted to be here.

Not necessarily. We needed a LT regardless which QB we sign. However I am sure there was a sense of urgency because any QB that signs would like to know how he is going to be protected. We may see another OL signing like Mawae shortly for the same reason.

I thought as soon as we started signing FA's that we probably had a deal. I don't think Saban would be signing other FA's until he knew what he had spent on the QB since that was his priority

Or the signing of Shelton means we cant offer Brees what he wants so we are moving on.

Well, it never looks bad to shore up a weak spot on the offensive line while the team you're competing against for Brees, N.O., just lost one of the best lineman in the league.

That Means nothing!! If the Money is good Brees will go to the Saints no matter what

well no...brees just got left out in the cold because the chargers hung him out to dry over phillip rivers. The last thing he wants, is to have the same exact thing to happen to him in New Orleans with matt leinart...

i was wondering this myself. i was also wondering if maybe he already has agreed in private, but they're just waiting to publicly announce a deal, so in the meantime we're picking up other guys. i suppose at this stage in the game though anything is possible. it could mean either brees is hear or he's not... i just think w/all the talk about qb being high priority, and dolphins asking other FA's to relax until we get the qb situation straightened out, that its only logical that we might have a preliminary agreement... maybe that's just optimism speaking :-)

No, because Brees is still talking to the Dolphins.

They said they had asked the other FA's to hold on until they got QB "resolved".

Signing Shelton says that they already, for all intents and purposes, have that "resolution" in place and are just tweaking and finalizing the deal.

uh..I'm on the: "We were gonna upgrade the tackle position REGARDLESS" team. He's not commanding soo much money that we wouldn't be able to get Brees.

But they said they would put the other FA's ON HOLD until after the QB was solved. It indicates that they have something concrete in the works with Brees.

When did they say this?? Because if you can show me where this was said I will agree, and probably dance because your right.
