One factor that could tipping the scales in Brian Schottenheimer's favor is Don Shula.

Don is good friends with Marty Schottenheimer, and I'm sure is well aware and able to provide ample insight on Brian, and may have already done so.

This is not to say that Don needed to do a selling job. Eric Mangini and Mike Tannebaum (the Jets GM) are both on record as having been incredibly impressed when they interviewed Brian for the OC job last year. I'm sure he brought a lot of that to his first interview with Wayne. But a word or two from Don, who still holds some weight in the Miami organization, could be the thing that puts Schottenheimer over the top.

And not to forget, Shula was also 33 when he first became head coach.

Yep, the Shula's / Schottenhiemer's are friends, and I've heard that Don Shula think's very highly of Brian....

PHINZ RULE!!!!

Wonderful. Daddys hookups are gonna get his little boy a job.

If the "little boy" had no qualifications and delivered pizzas, then there would be a problem. But the "little boy" is very qualified and getting the blessing of the Dolphin's Elder Statesman is icing on the cake.

Just knowing this takes away from his integrity as a coach. If this surfaces in the media, the dolphins will look like fools.

Until he takes the Dolphins to the playoffs, then no one but you will be talking about it.

Until he takes the dolphins to the playoffs, the general fan base will be waiting to burn him to a stake for each loss.

I really dont know how much, if any, Shula will have any influence over Wayne H. I think he may conversate with him, but he will not come out and ask him his opinion. This decision is probably the most important one he has faced since Shula was outed.

That'll be true of just about any coach that comes on board. Remember, a great many fans were calling for Don Shula's ouster during his last season. In Miami, the ole saying "what have you done for me lately" resonates loud and clear.

It could be Don and Wayne are really good friends and Wayne asks him for advice from time to time as well as Marino.

if the chargers lose tommorrow

lee hamilton (san diego sportstalk show) was on with mike and the maddog in new york and said if san diego loses that schottenheimer will get fired and wade phillips will get the job and not cam cameron..he went on to say that because schottenheimer and shula are tight that he would have a really good chance at getting the miami job and bringing a lot of the assistants with him..he also said that schottenheimer and a.j. smith don't talk to each that wade phillips and smith are best friends..so if that happened we would have marty as head coach and cam as oc and capers as dc..you can listen to the interview on wfan.com

I respect the hell out of Marty Schottenheimer, but at 63 years old I would have to pass on him if I were making the decisions. The last thing we need is another coaching change in 4-5 years.

With this scenario is it your understanding that if Marty is out with a loss on Sunday that Cam would not want to remain OC under Phillips?
