This has to be legit. Something is very wrong with this D. I'll nip the "it was preseason" "it was week 1" comments in the bud right here. This team has no pass rush. You have Wake, elite pass rusher. Well, he didn't look so elite against the rookie Monday.

Who else rushes the passer well? Misi? Dansby? Burnett? Odrick? Absolutely not JT. He has nothing left in the tank. If you can't get within 2 feet of the QB, you've got big problems. The secondary doesn't need to be discussed, but this could D could be in for big-time trouble this year. Against teams with solid to elite QB's, the yards pile up QUICK. Matty Ice, Brady, and now Schaub comes to town.

This could seriously expose this supposed elite front seven, and of course Nolan.
 
People used our number 6 defense as a crutch all off season. A defense that all year long failed to make a play when needed against the likes of Buffalo, Detroit and Cleveland. They couldn't generate a take away to save their lives. Great defenses step up and make plays! They put teams away and ours doesn't!
 
Guys...we have talent and it is only the first game of the season. I think judgement can be reserved for at least a few more weeks.

Yep. For all the talent and changes in staff, how much has changed since Parcells arrived? Was it all Pasqualoni's fault?

We said this last year. And the year before that. And the year before that. Where are the changes? Improvements? Can we say now that a secondary of Davis, Smith, and company is an improvement over Allen, Goodman, Gibril Wilson?
 
Points taken.. there is genuine cause for concern... but hopefully the D, which on paper should if anything be more dominant, is a work in progress that meshes before the season gets away from us. However, I'm still shaking my head over our "braintrusts'" decisions to cut Quinton Spears, Will Allen and EJ Edds while retaining slugs like Carroll, Sapp and Spitler. Just more arbitrary and questionable decisions in a long line of them that could well end up being the catalyst capsizing their boat.

That's what I'm thinking too. What's with the inability to make good decisions about personnel? Heck, I'd take Roth in there pass rushing right now, at least he has a motor. Edds in coverage over a Sapp or Carroll. And we'd rather have Reshad Jones getting faked out of his cleats over a guy like Merriweather, even if only for one season? Give me a break.

Personnel decisions PLAGUE this "regime". Let's give away a guy like Satele who's ripping it up in Oakland, and would solve our problems at OG. Let's cut Will Allen only to beg him back a week later. Let's cut LJ and Will Allen because of money, and then waste money on Sapp's salary which is guaranteed. Awful decision making skills.

This is spot on. Being "6th" in defense doesn't mean much if you can't make a play - it's just a slower death

Lord knows why defense is judged solely on "yards against" when everyone knows turnovers are at least as important - and we were 29th out of 32 in turnovers
 
Salt the wound! We gave up Cam for Sapp! Who has sucked and been torches weekly since we got him. Carroll sucks, Culiver Sucks, calling Misi average is a stretch, Ordick looked like he was on the Vernon Carey/Golden Coral diet plan returning that int. I don't see one player on our defense that can consistently takeover a game.

You know what else is legit? The National Enquirer....! C'mon now, it seemed like many teams this past weekend showed a trend, no defense. Plus we went up against one of the premier offenses in the league. Give them one week to right the ship before jumping off of it.
 
I feel the op's point...Our D has not made a crucial stop in many years (remember the QB sneak for a TD that resulted in a Texans W?). Its one thing to get out-played but something entirely different to get embarrassed on national TV.
 
How exactly is it possible our starters gave up 17 points in 1 quarter when they played 2 series, one of them resulting in a 3 and out?
 
Bottom line....

Parcells and everyone he brought into this FO and coaching staff are a complete joke. Some of us have known this for a couple years or more now.
