I am not saying it could be done. I know that the conferences, TV Contracts, and scheduling wouldn't allow this:
Wouldn't it be great if the Florida teams could get together and schedule some sort of format to crown a state champion? I mean, with USF coming up, FAU and FIU capable of once in a while making a statement... why not?
I've though of a few scenarios, this one could work.
UF, FSU, UM, USF, FAU, UCF, FIU, FAMU
All 8 teams leave the first 2 weeks open.
The top 4 ranked teams from the season before play each other week 1. Winners play each other week 2 for Florida Title.
Losers can play each other week 2, and throughout week 1 - week 2 the other teams play each other so as not to lose any games from the season.
Thoughts? I know my system is rough, but I'd really like to see some inter-state action more often. Specially b/w teams that rarely (never) play like USF vs. UF or UM vs. UF... hell even FIU vs. UCF.
Another great benefit would be that these games would make great recruiting games to try and keep that high school talent in the state!
