People often post that certain players aren't right for the Dolphins' system. What exactly is the Dolphins' system? What kind of players, QBs, LBs, and CBs in particular, fit the offense that Saban runs?

i think versatility is a must. the "system" as it's called tends to show tons of looks, so having the ability to play from different areas of the field is important...tough and physical. lots of depth up front is good.

defensively you need to find player that fit the 3-4 system

Right now for an OLB we need a player that is large in size (250 lb range) where some players are much smaller

for instance
Ernie Sims OLB FSU is a wonderful talent and good 4-3 OLB that is great for the cover 2 system. He is pretty much a Derreck Brooks honestly remade according to alot of folks.

But if you stick him into the 3-4 he would be horrible for a player. He is too small and not able to get off the blocks well enough.

Where someone like Bobby Carpenter is very good for our system as a big body he can play ILB or OLB in the 3-4 easily with the less defensive line protection and flourish.

For a QB there is different types of systems for different QBs.

For instance Alot of QBs like Grabowski fit the West coast system which is quick short passes. Alot of montana or Pennington and young. Players with no the "huge arm" but the accuracy to make the competitions.

Other players do a more down the field passing game like we ran last year. That would be players like Cutler and Croyle.

I hope it helps some at least? I can go into more depth when off of work but hard to type of huge detailed information from here.

Saban (according to posted/read info) Likes Big 3-4 style LBs that can blitz AND cover he likes Big 6'0+ 200+ corners who can cover AND tackle.. QBs for linehans (dolphins) system need BIG arms. Basically he wants to get Bigger and faster EVERYWHERE on the D.

My view and some guys we may look at that fit....the constant is on defense Nick likes aggressive then smart at all positions, and on offense he likes smart linemen, physical backs, speedy recievers, and a downfield QB.

DL-Guys that play inside and out or outside and can stand up., OR guys that can play man up on the nose AND 2 gap. Ngata, Watson, or Larry Dibbles, Moe Thompson, Rodkerkus Wright, and Dave Tollftson.

LB-Larger guys that play in space and are not neccessarily sideline to sideline guys (play the edge but do not have to play in space, must have above average cover skills (feet)), because the corners must be good tacklers and responsible for outside contain. Greenway, Carpenter, Nick Reid, James Anderson, William Freeman (Furman), Havner, Gerris Wilkenson (GT), and Leon Williams.

DB's-Versatile inside/slot/corner types. Corners must be good tacklers not defined as "physical" because they seldom hand fight or play man up inside 5. Physical, big, smart safties...speed not a must. Huff, Williams, Cedric Griffen, Darrell Hunter, Justin Wyatt, Ko Simpson, Pat Watkins, Muhammed Abdullah, Jason Simpson, Brian Ihwur (if he has 4.7 or less speed).

OL-Athletic, smart tackles and smart aggressive versatile inside guys that are physical man up types..not play in space pulling guards....Colledge, Scott, Winston, Lafew, Brad Butler, Lutui, Jean-Gilles, dela Garza, Mangold, and Degory.

RB-Physical not neccessarily breakaway guys. Good size and hands. FB is almost entirely a blocker. Addai, PJ Daniels, Wali Lundy, and Cedric Humes.

WR-Downfield types, blocking not a neccesity, but must use hands well and avoid jams either with quick feet or physical play. Chad Jackson, Brandon Marshall, Travis Wilson, Hass, Skylar Green.

TE-Possession type guy that is a blocker first. Fassano, Owen Daniel, and Cooper Wallace.

QB-Downfield arm (at least for Linehan, who knows now), athletic, and can run for yards (not neccessarily to throw). Game manager that protects the ball and field position. Smarts more than touch, but must possess the threat of going downfield. The big 3, Whitehurst, Croyle, Erik Meyer, Richie Williams, and Ingle Martin.

He likes his Cb's Tall around 6'-6'1" with long arms. They must be able to tackle well.

Not only big and faster guys, but team players. Saban knows it is a team sport, and everyone must work together. Look at what he did with Ricky, he knew JT and alot of the guys were pissed at him, he worked everything out, and look at how well the team played together. Saban also want physical players, guys that arnt afraid to put themselves out on the line

I think like Juan Cribbs said, on the defensive side of the ball and concerning the TE/H-Back position, you need to be versatile.

The LB's need to be good run defenders but also be able to play in space and have good height (6-2 and upwards)
