The team is not as bad as people are making them out to be. Kansas City is a well established offensive machine, and they are putting together a respectable defense. The Dolphins are a bad team that has been shredded and pieced back together with whatever was available.
The defense was hit and miss. The obvious weak point in the secondary, maybe even the entire defense is Howard. He regularly gives up big plays. On the other hand Daniels is quickly becoming a respectable NFL CB. Next year we get back Poole, and will have a go at free agency and the draft. The D line also did not play consistent. We need two big aggressive tackles, Zack and company can not be effective unless the D line gets penetration. With Seau getting closer to Social Security age we definitely need another young, smart LB. After watching the game the biggest surprise was how the D line got pushed around. Not to make excuses but being on the field 3/4 of the game does not help. KC has a BIG O line and our guys looked exhausted. The defense did not play exceptionally but they kept us in the game, once again the offense lost the game.
I do not understand why Linehan is not running the ball more. Even with the O line that we currently have the Dolphins could still have a formidable running attack. Brown is getting his timing, and adjusting the speed of the pros. Ricky is Ricky and could break a long run on any hand off. The O line had one of their best games of the season. The penalties were kept to a minimum and Gus had a good pocket for most of the game. The O line has not been consistent against the run the entire year, and they had their inconsistencies against KC but did open up holes for Ronnie. I'm not going to read to much into Ricky running in two games for like 7 yards, Ricky runs better the more carries he gets he will come around. The penalties were way down, this is a good place to build from. The fact that everybody is learning a new system has to be adding to the penalties, but it's nice to see them decreasing.
I said before that the loss was the offenses fault, but that is not fair. Gus Frerotte is the main reason we lost the game. I have stood behind Gus since he came to the team, but enough is enough. The receivers were wide open on many occasions and were either overthrown, or the ball was thrown to the wrong receiver. This was the sixth game of the season, if he doesn't have his timing with the receivers down yet, then it's time to go. On top of the poor passing McMike is not being utilized. It looked to me like the receivers were disgusted by the end of the game. It is a known fact that Gus is an old QB on his way out with no upside. He is the only player on the team with experience in Linnehan's system and still looks lost out there. I say it's time to start Sage. There are 10 games left in the season, let Sage start if in 5 games he has not shown that he can lead this offense then there are 5 games left and we can find out what Cleo Lemon is all about.
There is some good talent on this team, we are just missing to many key components to play consistently at all positions. At the end of the year Saban will know exactly what he has and what he needs. Mueller is doing what he was hired to do and Clearing up as much cap space as possible. the team will be drastically better next year with a year of the new system under it's belt. The new players that are brought in will benefit from the players that are still on the team next year. i have faith in Saban, this guy is a winner. He has been a winner everywhere he has ever coached. there is no way I am jumping ship after 6 games. GO DOLPHINS
