We all know every penalty hurts. But does one penalty hurt more than another? I examined all the penalties we've had and the players that committed them. Did they have an effect on the current drive? Did they cost us points? Let's take a look...

Game 1: Denver @ Miami

Vernon Carey - Potential crucial penalty with a false start on 3rd and 5, brings up a 3rd and 10. Miami ends up gaining 15 yards on a completion. Penalty had no effect.

Lorenzo Diamond - Offensive holding on 2nd and 7. Brings up 2nd and 17 which is nullified when Denver commits a holding penalty on the next play. Penalty had no effect.

Rex Hadnot - False start on 1st and 10. Miami still gets the first down after a 3rd and 2 conversion. Penalty had no effect.

Chris Chambers - False start on 1st and 10. Miami still gets the first down. Penalty had no effect.

Wes Welker - Crucial penalty, with a false start on 3rd and 6. Brings up 3rd and 11. Penalty had an effect.

Rex Hadnot - Adds on to Welkers penalty, to bring up 3rd and 16. Miami doesn't get the first down, forced to kick. Penalty had an effect.

Channing Crowder - Pass interference on 2nd and 10. Automatic first down. Penalty had an effect.

Jason Taylor - Offsides on 3rd and goal from the 3, pass was incomplete. Gives Denver another chance. Even though Miami stopped them on 4th and goal I still think the Penalty had an effect.

Reggie Howard - Illegal use of the hands that was declined. Penalty had no effect.

Jason Taylor - Offsides on 3rd and 10 on a pass that was incomplete. Gives Denver another chance with 3rd and 5. Taylor gets bailed out with another incomplete pass to bring up 4th down. Penalty had no effect.

Marty Booker - Offensive holding to bring up 1st and 20. Gets a break with a defensive pass interference call on the next play. Penalty had no effect.

Matt Roth - Unnecessary roughness after the play on an interception. Instead of great field position, Miami is back in their own territory. Penalty had an effect.

So for game 1, we have 11 penalties for 69 yards. Not including the one on Howard that was declined. The players whose penalties had an effect on the current drive were:

Wes Welker (1)
Rex Hadnot (1)
Channing Crowder (1)

I'm not trying to prove anything, some of you may think the other penalties had an effect when I thought they didn't. Just take what you want from the stats above.

Damn cuz, good job! I think Hadnot is gone next year if he does not clean his act up. He is good for at least one false start every game.

I really would not mind getting rid of most Wanny players at this point. They all suck.
