ESPN's John Clayton reports the Raiders intend to draft Calvin Johnson with the No. 1 pick if the Dolphins acquire Trent Green from Kansas City.

Clayton's theory is that the whole top part of the draft depends on the future of Trent Green. If Green goes to Miami, Daunte Culpepper will be cut and Oakland would then sign him. Clayton says if a Green trade can't be worked out, the Raiders will be forced to draft JaMarcus Russell.

Just trade Daunte already Green will be a Fin....

Im fine with a 6th or 7th rounder. I just want them to get a QB so we can snag Quinn.

would realeasing culpepper be a good move just to up the chances of brady quinn slipping to 9? sounds risky but worth a look...

i could see a 3 way trade in the making herewe send culpepper to oak, kc sends us green, and kc gets a 2nd day pick from miami and another 2nd day pick from oak. it would make alot of sense for all 3 teams.

I'm still trying to figure out the logic in cutting Culpepper. We'd basically be throwing away any value in the 2nd rd pick we traded for him and wouldnt we take a pretty significant cap hit as well? It would be nice to get compensation for him which would likely be in the 5th-6th rd range, but does anyone really think thats better than the potential of him coming back healthy for training camp and dramatically increasing his value to us or another team? I know for a fact im in the minority but I think the most favorable situation for our team is to trade for Green, allow him and Daunte to compete for the starting QB position then drafting a QB in the first day would make the position a strength for once.

saban screwed us and him.... hes worthless, noone will trade for him and hes a liability to anyone that picks him up. i was a daunte supporter until the news that he wont be ready for another couple monthes. how longs it been and how long does he need. his knees shot, he tried to hard to comeback early and he doesnt fit our new sceme, hes just not smart enough and doesnt have a randy moss to air it out too. this guys gone and we wont get anything for him... so long its been real

in theory i have to agree with you. but from a realistic stand point, if the dolphins could get green and quinn. and if part of that requires cutting or trading culpepper for scraps then i think we can both agree that it would be a neccessary move. although like u said, in theory that would be nice, but probably wont happen.

lets just Quinn and skip the Green part ugh. Dont remember anyone trading for a 37 year old QB that really worked out well. Trent Green's longest completion last year was 35 yards. His contract is also a huge concern making 7.2 million this year then 9 million the next year. He may restructure but he is not going to just throw away his contract and what do we do next year, yea probably cut him and then take another major cap hit. No matter what I don't want to pay him 6 million just because they put easy incentives in the contract, look at Frerotte's incentives or even Joey's way too easy just stand there and take a snap get an extra 3 million.

That's actually an interesting scenario, except:

1) I think Oakland wouldm' ant to inherit Daunte's salary with him having iffy health when they could simply sign him for less once he is cut.

2) I think KC would want one first day pick and one second day pick, unless both second day picks are at least fifth rounders.
