Since Bill Parcells came to town, our drafts have contained far less surprise in early rounds than the previous years. Picks like Jason Allen and Ted Ginn Jr. shocked almost everyone.

In this year's draft, a lot of different players have been mocked to the Fins. We've seen McClain, Bryant, Dan Williams, Spiller, Pierre-Paul, Graham, etc., all of who would fill a need or provide BPA justification.

My question is: if we end up drafting someone at #12 that no one expected to be on our radar, would most people have faith in Parcells, or would we freak out as in years past when a pick seemed to not make any sense?

Depends on who it is...

If it's a guy like Everson Griffen....I'd be more inclined to smile, light up a cigar, kick back and watch the rest of the draft unfold....he might not necessarily be on the "mock drafters" radar....but he was on mine...

If it's a Tim Tebow....I'd be more inclined to wonder exactly how competent the people running Miami's franchise really are....if I don't already...

If we draft Tebow Im moving to New York.

Griffin is such an interesting choice to me. He was used in Coverage lots this year, especially vs Ohio State and was used to spy on Pryor as well. He is a big boy at 280lbs, his pass rush is pretty good and plays the run great are the word on the street. Maybe drop 10 lbs and becomes our SOLB.

I've got to say, with all of the team needs this offseason, there aren't many players that would shock me at #12. Even if we go OT, or draft Iupati, it would help the team out a bunch. Because of that fact, if I'm shocked by our pick, it might be pretty bad.

If available (either one), Bryant or McClain is a pick. That seems just about set in stone.

After that, front runners for the spot seem to be Brandon Graham and Dan Williams, with Spiller seeming like the long shot (with no labor agreement in site).

I don't think Everson Griffin would be that much of a shock. Basically, if McClain and Dez (and maybe Dan Williams) are gone, it is very likely gonna be the OLB-du jour.

Morgan/Graham/Kindle/JPP/Griffin will all be possibilities at 1.12 depending on workouts and interviews.

But...if you want to talk "unexpected"...look out for:

CB Joe Haden or OT Anthony Davis

Haden would be a steal if he slipped to 12 and if the Trio is worried about Sean Smith as a starter and/or think Will Allen won't be healthy enough and/or think Will Allen could move to FS, then Haden could make sense.

Anthony Davis is considered by more than a few scouts to be the best OT in this class. If the Trio think Carey could move inside to RG and/or are very down on Donald Thomas and/or want to keep Nate Garner as the key reserve, Davis could be a surprise pick. Note the Rutgers connection.

And these picks would only be able to happen if somehow we had filled the huge holes at LB and FS in FA and they liked some NTs and WRs in the later rounds.

Example:

FA: Karlos Dansby ILB, Scott Fujita OLB
Position Move): Will Allen to FS, Vernon Carey to RG
R1.) Anthony Davis OT
R2.) Demaryius Thomas WR
R3.) Cam Thomas NT

That would be shocking but our OL would be ridonkulous!

See, I wouldn't mind either of those picks. Haden is projected to be a shutdown corner in the NFL and O-line depth is always needed. I think real "shockers" would be someone like Arrelious Benn or Carlos Dunlap. Thankfully, this seems like a draft where it would be really hard to mess up the pick. I just hope we don't get any more JD Folsoms in the later rounds. If you're going to take a shot on small school players in rounds 6/7, they should be at playmaker positions.

To really shock everybody, "Sam Bradford". Smart and accurate. I think everybody on this board would **** themselves.

It is rare to find 300+ pound linemen that are both powerful and "quick."

I'm a Hawkeye fan, but Jared Odrick of Penn State was the best defensive Player (lineman or otherwise) in the BigTen last year. That includes Graham from Michigan.

Look, there are LOTS of OLB who are big and fast in this year's draft. I don't think Parcells has ever picked a WR in the first round and he won't start this year. I'd love to have Dez Bryant, but there are lots of Receivers who can play and still be picked MUCH later in the draft.

I don't care if we think we're OK on the DLine, it is rare to find powerful Run-stoppers who command a double-team like Odrick does, who are also quick and disruptive in the passing game. He proved in the Senior Bowl practices that he is quick enough to get to the QB on pass plays. He's proven it in the BigTen for the last several years.

O'Brien Schofield from Wisconsin can be had on the second day. He's every bit as big and powerful as Graham and just as fast. He's proven he can play as an OLB in the post-season this year. He blew out an ACL, but by his second year, he'll be as good as new and we'll have gotten a STEAL in this draft at a need position.

I really feel that we are going D ...The Tuna likes to build within the front 7...

I think If Merling does move to SOLB then we would Def take Odrick...

But I would be shocked if we took an offensive linemen cause we have good depth and it was one of our stregths last year...

2nd round pick, pat white..............now thats f####d up.............

What's the word on that? Is Merling really going to be moved to SOLB b/c I see nuggets about that on that on boards but never anything legit.
