I'm underwhelmed by these numbers and think we can do better.

League rankings for Groh lead defense's

----------pass----rush----int----sack----td's

91' NYG----6------16-----22------16-----10

93' Pats----4------22-----19------18-----16

94' Pats---16------19-----4--------5-----14

95' Pats---25------22-----22------13-----25

96' Pats---28------6------4-------19-----12

00' Jets----6------23-----6-------15-----10

The TD stat is a TD's given up rank and low is good, as you can see his teams weren't real good.

It also stands out to me that the Pats D seems to have slid in most category in each year he was the DC.

He was also the LB coach for 89-90 NYG, 92 Cle, 97-99 Jets and out of all the players that played for him as a DC and LB coach I could only find 3 players he sent to the pro bowl

Lawrence Taylor
Pepper Johnson
Mo Lewis

I searched just LB's for years he was a LB coach and full defensive rosters on years he was a DC

After looking at all this I just feel like we will be making a sideways move on defense not a forward move. I hope the FO is aggressive and goes out and gets an innovator not a maintainer which is what I think Groh is.

As long as thats the only amount of TD's his defenses have given up then im all for him being here if we sign him.

I don't want him...I don't understand the hype by some here for him...

Thats not the number of TD's they gave up its where his defense was ranked. In other word if your ranked #1 it means you gave up the least amount of TD's. His teams rankings aren't that impressive I'd say average at best.

Your right I read it wrong

Stats are definitely not impressive. I read an article a few days ago about Weiss going to KC. Jason Whitlock proclaimed it a very unusual marriage between Weiss and Haley. We all know Weiss' arrogance and considering that Haley is an "offensive guru", how will Weiss react to Haley getting involved in his offense.

The reason I bring this up is that Haley is also quite fiery. He clashes with coaches and players. I have to wonder if Pasqualoni was fired because Crennel was supposedly close to signing in KC. Also, there must be an offer on the table from the Dolphins if Crennel is "weighing his options" as it has been reported. Perhaps Crennel does not want to deal with Haley and would rather stay close to where he has his home in S. Florida.

Just pondering :ponder:

That is interesting. I just hope we get a guy that is innovative and not paint by color.

Like I said in another post, I don't know much about groh but I just can't see the tuna firing a coach then hiring one who in no better or on the same level as the one he got rid of. He would have absolutely nothing to gain by doing so. My prefrence would be to sign groh for lb's and get a good young DC with alot of energy.

I think bringing Groh in as the LB coach would be a great move but I think he wants a DC job and that would be a bad move (imo)

I agree completely. I looked at the same stats and was very unimpressed. More over you want to see improvement from year to year but clearly there is none.

I think people are just assuming because he has Parcell ties he's the logical choice but I would be very disappointed in this hire.

YOU and I don't usually see eye to eye but good call on Groh... he is nothing but a Parcells nut hugger that will be mediocre at best as as DC. He would be fine as an LB coach though...

We need a DC that will run a scheme ala the Ravens or Jets within inventive blitz packages and disguised coverages... NO MORE VANILLA

I couldn't agree more and YOUR right I rarely see eye to eye w/you, but hey that's half the fun of an opinion forum.

I think we need an innovator that actually schemes and gambles not just does what your suppose to do right out of the football 101 handbook. When you become predictable in what you do it's pretty easy to game plan against it. Your right we have been way to vanilla for far to long now.

Switching from Pasqualoni to Groh would be about as exciting as going from A.J. Feeley to Gus Frerotte

Mike Nolan was our DC in 2000 and those #s are off.
