I am not a draftnik so I wont border you at all with another stupid "mock draft". I figure Miami would draft a form of lineman be it a guard or tackle in the first round. But e can all agree, Miami offense could use more weapon. I think Charles Simms is probably the perfect weapon for the Miami offense, Lazor would do wonders with these guy, He is projected to be around in the second rd.

At 6-foot, 213-pound senior, Sims is the most versatile running back in the college game, with a set of skills that should make him a nightmare to defend at the next level. He is a smooth, fluid runner on the edges but possesses the size and strength to grind effectively between the tackles. Those traits are enough to make him an effective player in any offense, but it is his superb receiving skills that will make him an offensive coordinator's dream at the next level.

Running Style

The West Virginia offensive scheme is a zone blocking scheme that allows the running back quite a bit of freedom when it comes to picking their running lanes, setting up blocks and getting opponents to miss. Sims has good vision, does a good job of diagnosing where the best spot is going to be to make a run and doing his best to maximize the run.

Hands

Sims is not afraid to catch the ball with his hands and is comfortable in doing it, while setting up where he is going to make his next move. He does a great job of taking quick passes and swings like an extended toss where he can approach them like a running play.

System Fit

Sims really fits well in a zone blocking scheme because of his vision and patience. He has a good understanding of reading defenses and having a good sense of where he needs to go, seeing the hole and going there.

Blocking

Sims has been used both in pass protection and as a lead blocker. As a lead blocker, Sims has made it pretty clear he will not be a fullback at the next level. Sims did a good job in obvious passing situations where he was going to be blocking right from the snap,he can shut down opposing pass rushers both inside and on the outside.

Runs high. Doubt he'd be able to do all that against an NFL defense. He would certainly replace Thigpen.

The thing I like about him though is that it seems like his pad speed is the same as his underwear speed. Guys like Dri Archer and the other flyers... seems like they're much slower or less explosive in their gear than they showed at the combine.

Good write up OP. 40 TD's at WV is impressive considering all the passing they did when Geno was there. What round is projected to go in ? Might be a decent option in the later rounds.

The knock against AP and DeMarco Murray was that they ran high. I don't really tend to listen much to the notion that running backs "run high." Seems like it's thrown around way too much.

He's more of a 4th round prospect IMO. Maybe late 3rd, but if we passed on backs through the first 2 days of the draft he'd be a solid target. Solid all around back.

Eric Dickerson ran high as well. Some players can get away with it .

I don't follow the college players like you guys but Charles make a good impression at the Senior Bowl.

Sims won the Alabama Power Most Outstanding Running Back Award for his work at the Senior Bowl.

"Charles emerged as the most complete back at the Senior Bowl with his performance during the North practices," Savage wrote of Sims. "He displayed burst and acceleration in a short area, caught the ball well out of the backfield and showed the potential to become a capable pass protector in the future. As a rookie in 2014, he should be able to secure a role as part of a backfield committee and return kickoffs as well."

He runs like the Chicago back Matt Forte.

Thanks for the highlight video. Impressive. However, the person that put the video together, Doug Cross, "Dougitydog", also did an incredible job of assembling the Tavon Austin video last year. I was wrong and all of the people that saw Austin as too big a risk were correct. I got too excited watching the highlight video. Sims' highlights are not as freaky as Austin's but the slickness and high quality of these West Virginia videos is great marketing. He makes all the West Virginia players look good. I don't think Sims is likely to be as good as Matt Forte (my favorite fantasy football player last year).
Make no mistake Sims looks good and his instinct for the end zone is impressive, but in the situation where we have many needs the improvement in RB talent may best be handled by an experienced veteran free agent. Daniel Thomas may get chopped but even he had some moments like the great game against Pittsburgh in the snow.

I like the guy. He reminds me of Reggie Bush, whom I really liked. But the problem is that Sims is a guy who excels in space and until now we simply haven't created any. I'm aware that we are replacing 4 of our 5 linemen ... but Pouncey isn't really a road grader, he's more of a pulling guard type playing center. We had Reggie Bush, and couldn't open hardly any holes for him. When we did, he was quite productive, and I'll put up his 12'ish yard TD run against Oakland up against any collegiate highlight. Without holes, 'in space' running backs are not going to shine.

Lamar Miller actually performed well when we opened up a hole into the 2nd level. The problem was that it rarely happened. When it did, he ripped off chunk yardage. I don't think we've given Miller a fair shake because Coach Turner, Litigious M our former LT, Bully Jerry and our center Pouncey were all very poor run blockers. Only the former Dolphin Incognito really opened up run lanes last year, and knowing that the LB's always knew where to defend. Sims would have failed behind that line last year.

Next year, we will have a mishmash OL of veterans new to Miami and new to Coach Benton. I like the coach and have much higher hopes ... but it's a lot of moving parts to incorporate in year 1. The guys who aren't new veterans will be rookies ... rarely a recipe for instant success. Still, I have to assume that with Benton coaching, Lazor coordinating and lots of resources in FA and the draft, we'll field a much better run blocking OL.

I like Sims and would be happy to draft him. But, to me he's a round 3-5 guy in this super-deep draft ... and there's still good OL to be had in those rounds. I don't mean marginal guys, I'm talking potentially guys like Jack Mewhort, Cyril Richardson, Athony Steen, James Hurst, Weston Richburg and Brandon Linder. These are guys who could start on day 1 (after Hurst heals) and help us at a position of legitimate need. I would have trouble pulling the trigger on Sims with guys like that on the board if we already have someone like Lamar Miller. I'd be more willing to pull the trigger on a more physical back like Carlos Hyde ... but I gotta admit, Sims has the running style that I more enjoy watching.

I thought he looked pretty good at Senior Bowl even though that South D was stifling at times with Dee Ford.

He hits the outside pretty good and seems to set up the screen well if the D wasnt so damn on top of it. But it is easier to make plays on D in that setting.

Well, Better feet and Vision than D.Thomas thats for sure! Outside of that I don't really see it. But, I don't even pretend to know anymore.

Why did everyone get a disparaging nickname except for Turner and Incognito?

Not true. I also didn't give a disparaging nickname to Pouncey. In fact, the only two who received disparaging nicknames were our former LT who set up a lawsuit against the team and the person noted in the Wells report as the worst of the bulliers, Jerry. Of the people involved (Martin, Incognito, Jerry and Pouncey) it sure seems as though Incognito has been the one singled out ... not Jerry. I guess he makes the best target for the lawsuit. I didn't give a disparaging nickname to the former coach Turner, but I'm happy to if you like ... how about Incompeturner? or Wrong Turner? or Worst OL in the NFL Turner?

So, did you want to talk about John Jerry?

Ricky Williams also ran high!!! :ricky:

LOL!

Some of the alltime greats ran high. Marcus Allen, Eric Dickerson to name a couple.

IMO, Sims was the only guy on the team last year that was worth a ****.

... Still, 2nd round seems a bit high for him. (I'd give him a look in the 3rd/4th)
