Or at least I hope it is... I know I'm going to receive allot of crap for this thread but I don't care. I'm tired of people insisting on continuing to build up our wildcat offense. IT IS DEAD. I don't believe we should completely eliminate it but it obviously is no longer the staple of our offense. After Ronnie went on IR we had to shy away from the wild cat when finally in the last few weeks of the game its presence was almost inexistent. And guess what? We did alright with out it. We didn't win but we played against some of the best teams in the league this year and we held our own. I believe that this offense is going to be making the transition this off season from the Wild Cat offense to the traditional offense. If you saw the Superbowl you know. RB's are out. QBs are in.

personally I like our old school approach still. Pound it with ronnie and ricky. However, it would help if ronnie could hold up. this opens up tons of play action and if we can get a solid #1 we would be vastly improved on offense.

I'd like to keep the wildcat in play inside the ten yard line. It was almost automatic when ronnie ran it inside the five, for a touchdown.

all that being said, we really need to focus on shoring up the Defense.

I do belive though, that we are one #1 WR from being pretty damn good on offense.

It just really depends on ronnie making it through consecutive years without injury!!

The Saints were great on all sides of the field. If the Saint's D didn't play great, Brees wouldn't have won a SB. WC is still alive and only died when RB went down. We're going to use it less, but it's a good formation for the goal line. Henning just needs to stop getting cute with it.

I totaly agree. keeping it as a situational trick play is smart. But when you run it every other down defenses pick up on it just like any other play. I think the coaches realized the wild cat would not work as effectivly as they had hoped when we started only getting 1, 2 yrd gains from it.

I dont think its dead as a running scheme at certain times during the game. But as an offensive philosophy its not only dead, its obsolete.

If this years playoffs and SB proved anything, is that you win via the passing game, and killing the other teams QB.

Everything revolves around the QB. You have one, you win. YOu kill theirs, you win.

Running is merely a compliment.

A couple big, strong, fast, capable wide receivers that can stretch the field will change all that. The field will open up more and the Wildcat can be used sparingly and effectively

what??? the fins rushed for almost a 5 yards per rush avg. when running out of the wild cat... i still agree you can't run the wild cat every down but a good 15-20% of the plays should be run from the wild cat until every team we play can stop it... until then i say we keep it and use it to the max...

See the 9 losses. Specifically against the Saints and Colts. The WC is stopped the second you prove you cant pass downfield.

Do you watch football??? The first few times we run the wild cat we may pick up 5 to 10 yards. After that the defense understands what the play looks like and they shut it down. If we continue to use and abuse the wild cat we will continue to loose football games. Looking at stats all day means nothing. But if you want to; how about looking at our most important stat 7-9... It's time for change...

It isn't dead b/c you don't like it

There is only one man that does the wild cat better then anyone and that is Ronnie. The wildcat will be back lets just hope it is not used so much.

The Dolphins can run the WC all day for I care, it produced first downs, 4 ypc, and we avg about 25 ppg with it. It is not what lost us games, it was our pathetic D that did.

i think it was obvious that the wildcat was very ineffective without ronnie running it. it's not something that you can just run with anyone back there.

if ronnie is back healthy next season, i would think they would run the wildcat 5-8 times a game with him. but if he isn't back, i would do away with it, no one runs it like he does.

It's obsolete? I see more and more teams experimenting with variations of the wildcat. I actually think that it is starting to catch hold as just another formation, like the shotgun or the spread formation. I'm sure many people thought that those formations were just a "gimmick" when teams first started using them. Like you said though, I do not believe any team will implement the wildcat as their whole offensive philosophy.
