''Had Ricky not left he'd probably end up getting suspended anyway, being realistic of his [marijuana] habits. It would catch up with him,'' ventured Theismann. ``Two years ago he was a significant contributor. Now in my opinion he's just a drug addict somebody is taking a chance on. The only reason he's playing is he owes the club money. He insults the game. Professional football would be better off without him.''

This is a ridiculous comment.. I guess Brett Favre insults the game, then.. That former pill-popping drug addict! Lawrence Taylor insults the game! That coke fiend running around coked out of his mind on gameday.. Michael Irvin insults the game! That SB winning junkie!

Apparently Theisman doesnt believe in rehabilitation, seeing as how Williams has been tested rigorously since he came back and nothing has shown up.. Well, if Theisman doesnt belive rehabilitation can occur, he should spit the same vile BS about Favre, Taylor, Irvin and COUNTLESS more NFL players.

Joe is just living a lifetime of anger because a "no-good junky" ended his career. He will always be bitter towards amazing athletes with problems.

I see where he's coming from but still, comments like that are uncalled for. People should give Ricky a little credit for changing his lifestyle and getting back into playing shape. Ricky is just going to have to play his heart out and prove guys like this wrong.

I agree with his point. Wicky is nothing more than a drug addict and he is an embarrasement to the game. But he is not alone in that area in sports in general.

Our society is willing tolerate things today that it never did before. I do not think this is a good thing.

Nonetheless Wicky is here and he is a talented HB and if he is willing to follow the rules I see no reason why he should not be allowed to play football. There are rules in place and Wicky has followed those rules. Another point about Wicky is he has always been a GREAT team mate when he is actually on a team. He gives 100% effort and sets a GREAT example as far as that goes.

But I see no reason to belittle Theismans point. IMO it is a GOOD point to make.

The jury is still out on Ricky. He hasn't played a down for us yet and I'm not ready to embrace him till I see him walking off that field a winner.

Babe Ruth was a raging alcoholic, womanizer, and I believe he might have even indulged in some other drugs.. They tolerated his antics plenty..I dont even believe the MLB tried to clean up his act.. They let him be. And if you dont believe alcohol addiction to be as bad as other drug addictions, I just dont know what to tell you.. Alcoholism is far more responsible for the dissolution of family structure, etc. in this country than any other drug.

He has a valid point.Sooner or later players like Ricky will go back to what comes natural to them. You cannot depend on them for very long.

But as a helpless homer I am hoping to get a couple of productive years from him before he goes off the deep end again.

Princess Diana who was an advocate for the reclamation and healing of addicts in Britain was quoted as saying...''Most people smugly critisize heroin addicts through a cloud of cigarette smoke.'' Then there was this man named Jesus who said ''let those without sin cast the 1st stone.'' I'm as guilty of this as any that read this, We should all try and be less critical of others and turn that discerning eye on ourselves...just a thought.
