Cleaning out his desk right now.

Bad news for the rest of the teams in the AL. Theo was a terrible GM and Boston is better off today without him.

I would have liked to see him come back. He's a young kid with alot promise, but he made alot of questionable decisions during his time here. (He also got bailed out by other teams on moves that would have been disasters)

Oh well... Thanks for Renteria you *******.

31 years old, $1.5 mill a year to be the GM in the best baseball town in America and he says no.

THEO IS NUTS! Nice guy, terrible GM, but absolutly NUTS!

Yeah I don't understand why he's leaving. He grew up in Brookline and with the Sox offering 1.5 Million a year for him to come back, I figured it was a sure thing.

Unless of course it has to do with his relationship among members of the Front Office. After all, no one seems to get along with Larry Lucchino. I guess we'll find out more later..

Larry runs that team. He is calling the shots. I don't think Theo liked that.

Still, it isn't like Theo is some genius GM. He has made a bunch of bad moves and they still offered him $1.5 mill a year. That is more money than the manager makes and he won them a friggin world series.

You can be the GM for a team with an UNLIMITIED PAYROLL and be in the hunt every year. Now, he will end up with some low-level job in Pittsburgh, KC, or Tampa with a payroll capped off at $40 mill if your lucky, and he will never be heard from again.

Nice move genius!

I wonder where they go from here... as long as DePodesta stays as far away from Boston as humanly possible.

I'm curious to find out what happened. If a diehard lifelong Red Sox fan doesn't want his dream job as GM, how the hell are we going to attract anyone to that position. I truely believe Lucchino was behind the scenes pulling some strings.

Theo must have been very unhappy..

They mentioned that guy in SF, Sabian <sp>. That would be a BRILLIANT move. He is from New Hampshire. Maybe the best GM in all of baseball according to most. And I believe he is, the guy is brilliant.

Problem is Sabian loves the Bay area and is in a great position with the Giants and probably doesn't want to leave. Especially for a place like Boston where there is now obvious in-fighting and some serious back-stabbing going on in the front office.

Two words: Gerry Hunsicker. Great GM. I'd try to get him if Beinfest stepped down.

Larry and Mike Port ran the team and Theo was just the puppet. The fact that Theo had to get everything approved by Larry just proves it. And the fact that the Rockies were pissed at the Sox during the trading deadline when they traded Eric Byrnes for LArry Bigbie because the Rockies thought they were getting back Adam Stein and Kelly Shoppach but once Larry heard about it he axed it.

With that being said I hope the Sox go after Kevin Towers of San Diego. Larry and Kevin have ties going way back and I also happen to think that Towers is a very good GM (one of the top in baseball). Just picture what he could work with if he had money? I hope the Sox get that done.

I also think Brian Sabean would be a great move too. Either of the two are fine with me.

This guy is dumb, 1.5 mill to be GM for a team with a huge payroll and a great fanbase? Ill do it for 1/4 of that and be just as good.

Theo has a major ego problem I guess and is on a power trip. I agree with everyone that he's completely nuts for stepping down.

I'm glad he's gone, if he's just dumb for turning down this type of money then I don't want him anywhere near my team. I guess Theo thought he was negotiating contracts with himself. After all he is the one that signed Clement and Renteria to big bucks and took back Millar.

i still feel renteria will improve.... but some players just can't adjust to our cubby hole locker room and rusting pee stalls in the club house....

Anyone think that maybe he was just tired or felt he already did the best job he could do? It could very well be about the money, in which case he was dumb, but there could be other reasons as well.

I'll be the first to admit, if you are GM of the Red Sox it is impossible to live a normal life. EVERYONE in the city recognizes the local kid, Boston such a small city. Maybe all the attention just wore him down... Who knows?

As a Red Sox fan, I'm not so dissapointed. He's most definitely not irreplacable, and we're a JP Riccardi, Brian Sabean, Kevin Towers or Gerry Hunsicker from replacing Theo.

Now if we trade Manny, that's a whole different situation. Hey Marlins fans, Cabrera for Manny straight up? :D
