I know some of you might disagree, but I think this is a very ominous sign. There are already too many people that go to games for the experience alone. We need real fans at the game not people that are going to be seen.
Ross is expected to confirm he is getting advice on running the team from former U.S. Open chief and former United State Tennis Association CEO Arlen Kantarian. Former NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue also has advised Ross but not in any official capacity.
Kantarian, who serves on the board of directors at Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, is said to be the architect of the way the Dolphins will do business in the future with the media and on game days. Kantarian has been advising Ross to reach out to the "new media" and to turn the game day experience into one that entices more than hardcore Dolphins fans.

I will repost my comment from the article here...
Im beginnnig to hate this guy. Why should we want celebrities at the games? So the camera can pan to them sitting there in their seats trying to to have any interaction with a real fan??? I say we bring in a bunch of drunken rednecks from Polk county to be wild and noisy. I dont think the old dog pound required celebs to be intimidating. Maybe he should have bought the Jets instead.

Dude it's a business, filling the seats is a must. All I hear from my friends from Miami when ribbed about empty seats is that there's so much more to do in Miami other than go to a game and roast their nutz off. Gotta make it one of the more fun things to do on a Sunday.... I'm glad to see he's doing what he can.

I think they should over-charge the celebs in order to make seats cheaper for the diehard fan. I would be all for that. But giving up a seat to a celeb just for a 5 second camera shot is total crap.

Well I see it two ways: Packing the stands creates cash-flow which creates the engine for spending on the team and that attracts top players.

On the other hand, living in the DC area on and off for much of my life, the Redskins have such a loyal fan-base that they show up at a stadium in an inaccessible part of town (in Maryland not DC) and create a mediocre product that is guaranteed to sell out.

I think Miami, being a beach town, brings many fans to the game to drink and socialize. With so many poor Dolphin teams in the past 15 years it is true that most fans that attend may not care about a product that has so little playoff potential.

I went to a Sunday night game a few years ago with my wife and it was an absurd drinking fest. I was also mindful of the police traps that were nailing drunk drivers on their way out of the stadium.

Miami needs a new stadium, more modern facility and better parking.

If we can continue to produce a winning product everything else will take care of itself.

if i had to take a guess, i'd say stephen will make some partnerships with hotels and airlines , sell/give them tickets and offer package deals to people accross america, hell, even in canada or england where there's a lot of dolfans

that might be the best way to gather dolfans, i mean, i've never heard of such package deal and if there was one i'd be down in miami every year. If i can think about it those guys probably did

I don't think it is really that much of a negative. Sure he is trying to turn us into the Lakers of the NFL, but it isn't going to take away anything from the true fans. So a few celebrities show up, it isn't like they are going to take your seat. They will be up in the boxes and club level.

I know this sounds stupid, but one thing I would love to have them include in this whole "improvement" thing is fireworks after each Dolphins score. The Eagles do it up here in Pennsylvania, and I remember when I went to the Colts/Dolphins playoff game in the 2000 season they did it. Would look great on those MNF games.

The more photogenic celebs showing up in the stands, the more national exposure we receive... and all the good things that this delivers including attractiveness to FAs, new enthusiastic sponsorships, etc. I see this as less of a negative than all the empty orange seats.

Also, for those that say you don't care if celebrities show up, lets just look back to last fall when Johnny Depp showed up to the Cardinals/Dolphins game wearing a Dolphins hat. This board was all over that with the pictures.

I'm not sure where you are coming from when you say that the Dolphins have been a bad team for the past 15 years, that is a ludicrous statement. Here in NY, try to get tickets to see the Jets or the Giants, no matter how bad they are. Once the excitement of a new facility wear's off you need a loyal fan base to come to the games year in and year out!:hump:

at least miami isn't charging a PSL(personal seat license) like the jets and giants. Lower level they want $20,000 a seat fee plus what it cost for the season tickets.

Fireworks would be cool after the game. The best display I´ve seen was after a Sounds game in Nashville, TN. I don´t even know what league they are in, but it made me want to go back. And yes, I have seen a lot of fireworks.

The guy just spent 1.2 Billion for the team. I could care less if after the game they have dwarf tossing and mud wrestling an alligator as long as it does not effect the team and does not piss off the big tuna. The guy wants to get some sort of return on his investment. Raving brings up a point (sort of). If Miami was like other towns i.e. Philadelphia, Washington D.C., NY/NJ Giants, where they have a waiting list of people wanting to buy season tickets, then Ross wouldn't need to bring in the bearded lady after the game.

Completely agree, as long as the stadium is pack, is great
