There is room to run on the Colts...

Coach Tony Dungy emphasized run defense for two weeks,
then watched Houston pile up 131 yards rushing.

I see dead horses everywhere...

Colts run defense a concern

INDIANAPOLIS -- There's a pattern developing on the defensive side of the ball and the Indianapolis Colts aren't ignoring the facts.

For five consecutive games, the ninth overall defense in the AFC and second-ranked unit in the AFC South has allowed opposing teams to rack up at least 100 yards or more rushing.

And despite standing at 6-1 on the season for the sixth time in franchise history and the first time since 1977 under Ted Marchibroda, the division front-runners don't want to get too comfortable considering the current trend.

"We still have to correct some problems," Dwight Freeney noted. "Once we correct that we're going to be a pretty good defense. Not many teams can go down the field and pass on us, so we have to be able to stop that run."

Two weeks after surrendering a season-high 189 rushing yards to the Carolina Panthers in overtime, the defensive front line struggled to contain Houston Texans rookie tailback Dominick Davis, who gained 109 yards on 25 carries for two touchdowns.

Following up his 129-yard rushing performance against the New York Jets with another outstanding effort at the RCA Dome, Davis became the first rookie with back-to-back 100-yard games in his first two starts since Denver Broncos' Mike Anderson achieved the feat in 2000.
