Clearance of some sort to make trades, based on sensability.I mean, how in the world do the Raiders trade a (knowingly high) future first rounder to a team that snaked them for a future HOF w/ a 4th rounder.

Seymour is a great plasyer,no doubt, but the guy is about to turn 30 yrs. old,in the last year of his contract(it was not restuctured befroe the trade),and everyone (aprantly not the Raiders) knows he is not going to re-sign w/ the black hole, that is Oakland.

I mean, trades like this defeat the purpose of competitiveness when a team like the Pats get easy (very easy) trades.1st rounders,2nd rounders, even third rounders from teams that would be better off ran by illiterate, uncomprehensible, plain but idiot franchises like the Raiders.Trades liek this puts teams not onl in the division of Swippers that are swipping lopp-sided trades left and right.

For MIA,BUF,and NYJ we have to deal w/ an already over-powered powerhouse, now we have teams outside of the division handing over all their chips, before we even get the game started....

Basically, what Im saying is,theres gotta be some sort of checks and balances or something in trading. These trades nowadays are becoming more and more repetative and naive, its disguisting.....

Here's the thing - Pats get to keep that 1st rounder regardless of what happens now.

The trouble of living in a free America where business is business. It seems fishy no doubt, but until something is proven that's the way it goes. We got a couple deals from the Cowboys last year that seems lopsided and there were talks of the Parcells hook up.

I'm not disagreeing with you really, but it is what it is. At least they're not video taping anymore......that we know of.

I have a sick feeling that he goes to the Raiders for 2009 and then resigns with the Patriots as a free agent in 2010, thus the 2010 Patriots have a first round pick and the player they traded to get the pick in the first place.

Yep, I've been saying this all along. You know what happened with JT totally burned Belichick, so he had to one up the Tuna. Just wait and see, wait and see.

I really don`t understand this thread, are you just jealous of NE`s success. They traded a 30 year old pro bowl DE for a first round pick, when did a 30 DE become too old. How do you know he won`t sign an extension, or minimum he could be franchised next year.

NE has been playing more and more of a 4-3 and obviousily think that RS`s replacement is good enough. I think this hurts NE more then it helps, that first round pick could turnout to be a decent player but the odds of it turning out to be as good a RS is slim to none.

On Oakland`s perspective, they have had an excellent young defense and now get a veteran leader that knows what it takes to win it all. They think J.Russell is on track to be great or at least real good, they already have a much improved Oline, a stable of good RB`s and a belief that their WR core is good then this is a great move for them right now.

This isn`t R.Moss getting traded for nothing or M.Cassel and MV for only a second when everyone knows Denver would have given up much more, I thought this trade made alot of sense for both sides.

I think there's a very good chance that Seymour does sign a long term deal with Oakland, certainly a lot more likely than he'd do the same with NE.

Al Davis has been handing out huge contracts to lesser players than Seymour the last 2-3 yrs. I can't see them doing this deal without planning on offereing him a heck of a lot more than the Pats would consider giving him. I expect he'll get a 10m/yr deal from the raiders in the next week or so.

If he stays healthy, it will be a good deal for both teams.

In fairness, we got Fasano and Ayodele for a 4th rounder, which we can all agree was as big a steal as your going to get.

The Pats are just good at obtaining draft picks and getting the best out of trades. If we had that same success you would not be asking for checks to be in place for trades.
