Of all the damning stats compiled by Matt Burke’s defense in 2018, this might be the most egregious:
The Dolphins collectively have 30 sacks, fourth-fewest in football.
Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald has 19 ½ sacks himself.
Miami’s inability to consistently generate pass rush is among the biggest disappointments of the year.

The 1st round miss on Harris really set the D back. Not only didn't we get a young, dominant pass rusher, on a rookie deal, we had to overpay to get a slightly above average FA to shore up the position.

Making a bad pick in situations like that can have a devastating domino affect.

That said, Burke had some good players. But failed to adapt his flawed philosophy to play to his players strengths. Was he dealt a weak hand? In some ways, I would say maybe, but a good DC does more with less.

He had a lot of young, inexperienced guys, yet insisted on a complicated pass defense scheme. A scheme which would have failed irrespective of the players.

A REAL DC finds ways to get pressure. Bring the house, stunts, SOMETHING. A number of teams don't have top pass rushers, but aren't in bottom 4

The way receivers were running free at the snap, I'm not sure it would have made much difference if we had Deacon Jones, and Bruce Smith.

I exaggerate, but you get the point.

Does Burke know that it's legal to jam a guy at the LOS, to throw off the timing of play design?

You can't continually run the same D, without adjustments, and expect OCs not to catch on.

A true DC will help Harris and Tank be better. With our wide9 bs we just can't stop people consistently. We do better in the redzone and 3n1 because we get away from wide 9 and play closer in at the tackles. Get us a True DC and it will help guys like Harris and Tank.

Harris was a huge miss in the draft. He will never pan out. He has what, 3 sacks in 2 years lol! The other major issue is Burke.

Burke is the issue plain and simple! What had he got out of any of our DEs???

Oh I 100% agree that Burke is a POS but Harris is a joke. That guy wasn’t worth a 1st round pick. Everyone involved in that pick needs to be fired.

I wish some of y'all held gase to this standard

I cant wait to hear the next obvious 34 olb miami should have drafted for its scheme post draft.

What scheme are you referring too? I haven’t seen a scheme that worked in Miami in years.
