Sorry, Dan Marino, you're on your own again, the hands-down greatest quarterback never to win a Super Bowl.

In a poised, methodical, workmanlike dismantling of the vaunted Bears defense, Peyton Manning left Marino's "he's great, but ..." table and joined Joe Montana, John Elway, Tom Brady and Co. at the winner's ball, where the crab cakes taste a whole lot better.
Beginning with Manning's crowning achievement, here are the Colts' 10 keys to victory.

Although he praises Dan Marino being the greatest QB to never win a super bowl, why does the media always have to bring it up?

Last time I checked, Peyton Manning didn't win this superbowl, it was the rushing of Rhodes and Addai that helped the colts win. I have much respect for Peyton Manning and his accomplishments. I think he may be one of the greatest QB's, but he was surrounded with alot more talent than Marino ever was.

This is the only reason why I didn't want Manning to win a super bowl. Because of dumb comments like that. I knew sooner or later the media would bring up Marino's name somewhere about not being able to win a superbowl.

and by the way, since when is Brady a "great" QB???

Im a Die hard phin fan but brady is a great QB in my opinion. You dont just win 3 Superbowls and nearly get to another one for nothing. Hes got that winning instinct. And Yes i agree with you about those comments.

I Guess Manning won that superbowl for the Colts and it wasnt the TEAM...Just like when they named Manning the MVP... I mean Cmon Everyone knows it wouldnt have been possible if it hadnt been for Dominic Rhodes big runs and Grossmans fumbles and Int's... Manning Deserves that Superbowl as much as Marino derserved one in his day. But unfortunately the ball didnt go Marino's way as it did for Manning...

Its a compliment to Dan. Dan was in my mind the greatest QB ever, full stop. Peyton is great but had he never won a superbowl then in 50 years people would still be comparing QBs who havent won the big one to Dan, not Peyton.

Congratulations to Peyton, the Colts deserved it. Now roll on FA and the draft.

:dolphins:

Dan Marino never had a great RB, nor did he have a solid defence to help him, Marino was the team.

I hear you.

It's a shame, a damn shame, but Marino will never be truly respected outside of the Phin fan base for his greatness because he dosen't have a ring.

It's just the way it is.
The fact the Phins never won it under him has absolutely zero bearing as to how great he was just as the Lions never even coming close to winning anything has no bearing on how great Barry Sanders was.
It will never be seen that way though.

On another note, Tom Brady IS a great QB.
Even if he hadn't won any of those super bowls I'd still consider him a great QB. He clearly has "it".

Dan Marino never had a great RB, nor did he have a solid defence to help him, Marino was the team.

That's the bottom line reality of his career.

He carried mediocre teams on his back.
By the time this team started to build a solid D the effects from the Achilies and shoulder injuries had lessened his talent and shortened his career.

It's truly dissapointing as a fan to realize the talent we wasted in Marino.

Marino got excatly what he deserved...no Super Bowl ring. The guy is an ***. I'm a dolfan and i can't stand the guy. Speaking form a very bad experience with that jerk. I'm glad he will carry that label with him the rest of his life. Karma is a B!@#$.

Tell us how you really feel.

Its part of the media hype. They blow winning it all out of proportion to individual talent. Marino's the best I ever seen from the 70s on up. You want to give it to Johnny Unitas, fine I never seen him but marino was heads and shoulders the greatest of the modern era

:rolleyes2

I"m sure the experience was just traumatizing!
He wouldn't sign your bobble head doll?

I"ve met the guy a couple of occasions and he's been cordial both times with me and everyone else around him.

In addition, my wife's cousin literally chased after him and his wife out of Cafe Matoranos and down the street to get a picture with him. He had every reason to tell him to get lost after being hunted down in a dark parking lot but he didn't. He graciously had his wife take the picture for him.

I think you're just one of the people around this board that likes to piss on any Dolphins history around here.

I've seen it with Marino and I've seen it with the 72 team.
Ridiculous that fans of this team go out of their way to bad mouth the good of the past.

On another note, if you think "Karma" has anything to do with the success of people in this world you're living in fantasy.

Some of the most successful people I know are scumbags and one of them is a downright criminal. He has more Lawyers to fight off lawsuits than he has actual staff for his bogus company that makes him millions.

Manning won the Super Bowl last night because of his running game and defense. There is no way he should have gotten MVP over Dominic Rhodes. That was a joke. Just like Elway finally won two Super Bowls because of Terrell Davis. Marino never had a running back or defense when he played. Its a team game.

Were you there to watch him curse out your own son for asking for a autograph? I don't think so....he is noone to curse out a 16 year old kid. He can go f!!! himself for all i care. The Dolphins will be champs someday and i'm glad he wont be with the team.

Get over it. Lots of great players have never won a Super Bowl Ring: Jim Kelly, Dick Butkus, Thurman Thomas, Barry Sanders to name a few. The media just needs somethig to talk about. Marino had his shot and didn't win it. It doesn't mean he sucked as a QB. He had a great career otherwise. Now he can concentrate on selling low carb meals on TV. We should all have it so tough.
