It is inevitable that people will make sweeping statements about this current Miami Dolphins team after this preseason game tonight. From Omar to Mando to bloggers around here, people will make assessments about this team after one preseason game.

I want to remind people not to go too far one way or the other after this one preseason game in terms of overall team production. It is just the first game. However, I think there are some modest things I would like to see in Coach Philbin's first game out.

1) I would like to see the plays come in a timely fashion and have Garrard get the team in and out of the huddle. I do not want to see us evaporate TO's because of disorganization. Show organization as a coaching staff and starting unit.

2) Protect the passer. Teams were terrible across the league yesterday protecting the QB. I would like to see the starting O-line keep the QB upright.

3) Discipline on defense. I would like to see a disciplined approach. Hopefully, we do not see blown assignments. I remember the last two preseasons of receivers running free. How about not this year?

4) I want to see Tannehill throw with some anticipation. I assume he is going vs. 2's and 3's. Overall, I would like to see him throw the ball tonight without having to see the receiver "open" initially.

I want to keep the bar low tonight in terms of how this team plays. It is game one for the new staff. However, I would like to see organization and discipline early on.

I am hoping to get extensive looks at Tannehill and Devlin.
I also hope the secondary plays with some cohesiveness.
Lastly, I want to see how we can rush the passer with Wake and Oliver.

Boobies!

I like Nublar7's answer... Look at what happened to Matthews yesterday. Freak injury!

Besides that, I would like to see good game-clock management, o-line domination (they have been together since the OTA's) and how the rookies are doing in a ''real'' game.

Tanny showing us that he has potential to take the reigns.

thats it

My expectations are low. I want to see how the OL is adapting to the new zone blocking, especially Cog. I want to see how Coyle is setting our DL in a 4-3, and how much he will use the 3-4. It's gonna be vanilla but, at least we can see where players are lining up. I want to see my Canes, in Miller and Vernon do something. I want to see Jimmy Wilson make some plays, and beat out Clemons. And I want to see Gates show something.

Not much to ask for.

No bad QB snaps. No fumbles or int's. No dropped passes or int's. Solid run and pass defense especially from the 2nd and 3rd team. A great kickoff or punt return by Miller or Thiggy. Score TD's not field goals in the red zone. No fist pumps.
Tannehill lights it up against the 2 nd teamer and wins the game with a long TD passes as time expires.

I'm not greedy :idk:

But in reality Nubs is right on. NO INJURIES

One other thing is Philbin showing that he is our future, and in complete control. This is his first game ever as a HC, after 10,000 + days (as he mentioned) of coaching. I believe he will do very well.

I am going to watch how often we go with two tight end sets. See if it will be our base offense

Tannehill and the surprises in camp so far.

How will Hogan, Samuda, Nanee, Shelby and Westermna perform against real opponents?

Clay is going to be interesting in that regard. Last year, all his success was from the H-back, with nothing at TE.

Did we change opponents at the last minute or, are we still playing TB? JK/LOL

Excellent post. We really need to try and stay even keeled...although it is difficult. I know there are going to be huge reactions to Tannehill game tonight...good or bad. We will either see..hes a bust...or he's our savior after tonight I am sure. We just need to look deeper into everyones play besides the stats. A.Rodgers looked horrible...Nick Foles looked amazing...its preseason lets keep things in perspective.
Keep everyone healthy...get some good productive reps from the Vets and lets see if some of these young guys can flash. Again...not necessarily stats...but can they execute..can the WRs get separation..can the D-linemen beat 1 on 1s..etc

I don't really look for any particular thing in the first preseason game. For me it's more of a baseline for the rest of the preseason and what I'm hoping is that over the next two games there is improvement. The 4th game is more to sort out the bottom of the roster.
