Think Goodell Sucks? Too Harsh? QBs with Skirts?

THIS right here is why he has done what he has done since taking over for Tagliabue.. Understand that Roger Goodell is not a bad guy. He's not out to "pussify the league."

He was protecting the product that all of you love so much and enjoy watching in the fall.

Without the rule changes and the recent suspensions to Saints players and coaches, the future of NFL could have been in SERIOUS trouble.

Now, at least Goodell and his lawyers can point to rule changes and the suspensions as a way of protecting the players the best that they could.

You guys should be PRAISING Roger Goodell for all that he has done.

More than 100 former NFL players have filed a federal lawsuit in Atlanta claiming that pro football didn't properly protect its players from concussions. The plaintiffs in the lawsuit include former Atlanta Falcon Jamal Anderson, ex-Georgia star Lindsey Scott and veteran quarterback Don Majkowski.
The lawsuit, filed Thursday in federal court in Georgia, claims the league failed to protect NFL players from brain injuries linked to football-related concussions.

some speculate these safety precautions are being made so he can make an 18 game schedule. not saying this is the case but it's some food for thought i suppose.

I don't doubt that at all. But I don't see it happening.

Player's Union would shut that down. They didn't get it done during negotiations of this past CBA.

It's not entirely that. It's also the fact that the league deems certain QBs as more worthy of protection than others.

Whether people like to buy into it or not, the NFL is a business first and foremost. They need to protect their product and investments.

Not a lot of people tuned in for New England v. Indianapolis last season. Wonder why that is? If the NFL is going to cater to the offenses, then they can't afford to have their big draws at the most important spot on the field sitting on the bench for a full season because they took a hit to the head.

Tom Brady v. Peyton Manning makes a lot more money for the league than replacing Manning with Curtis Painter.

Point is, the NFL is now being sued because they didn't do enough to protect players.

So is it ok with the fans that Goodell goes to extremes to protect players and prevent lawsuits, or is ok with the fans that Goodell sits on his hands and does nothing while former players ruin the league for good with lawsuits?

True, but who's to say what Carson Palmer would have become had the league protected him like they did Brady?

Tom Brady wasn't Tom Brady at one point in time either. I'm sure that early in his career, he didn't get some of the flags that he gets today.

Yes, but Carson Palmer was a rising star until he had the same injury that Brady got. When it happened to Palmer, nothing happened. When it happened to Brady, the rules got changed. You could argue that being the first overall pick puts you automatically into star status, whether deserved or not.
 
Tom Brady is not the sole reason for rule changes though. The NFL recognized a problem years ago and addressed issues. Tom Brady certainly isn't the reason the kickoffs were moved up.

They simply want to protect players and reduce the number of concussions suffer on the field of play. They've done that with a proven strategy.

Goodell has stepped in and changed the culture of the NFL for tomorrow. When Goodell took over the NFL, I believe they had something like 70+ arrests in his first year. Now they have 16. That's an incredible reduction. The man has vision.

How many other players can tell the refs when to throw flags?
 
The league is at risk, the lawsuits are having a significant impact and looking into the future it is possible the NFL may not survive.
These players that are being suspended deserve what they got.
 
Tom brady came back from the injury, whilst carson palmer demanded a trade and cried his way out of cincy, landed in oakland and still continues to suck. Maybe if carson came back to accomplish anything hed be closer to bradys status. I think thats secondary though, as the op mentioned, the lawsuits are the biggr picture here. Imo
 
I like Goodell and I think he's done a great job.

Many of these rules that protect QBs and defensless WRs were made by the competition committee, which is made up of coaches and execs, not by Goodell himself.
