- Every stopgap option at QB right now are below average at best and look to cost around 13M+
- This 13M is strickly a short term waste as any QB we sign doesnt hold any long term value
- The Fins roster is looking, at least on paper, to be the most talented they've fielded for a good decade
- The Fins, given their interest in Jay Cutler, look to be firmly in win now mode
What if instead of spending resources to get a marginal upgrade at QB, we change our overall team philosophy. We have the pieces to run a ground and pound game with Jay Ajayi carrying the load, allowing Matt Moore to use the PA to his strenght at throwing deep.
Sure, you're going to tell me that we don't have the OL to pull it off, and too many missing pieces on D too. And I agree. BUT... The team already seems to have allocated a budget for saving the season. Yes!, I'm speculating, but for the sake of argument, if the bar for saving the season is 13M in cap space, there surely is an equivalent in draft picks compensation.
Here's the thing, I don't think using that budget on a QB is the right play here... We would be much better off using those resources to solidify other areas of weakness. Guard an DT come to mind, as solidifying the trenches would allow the Fins to control the game much more smoothly. And whether we are talking about cap space or draft picks, I'm confident we could get a much better return on investment on 2 upgrades in positions outside of QB than 1 marginal upgrade at QB. AND those players arent necessarily gone next year, they are still upgrades on our roster. As opposed to Any QB that we sign, or trade for in the upcoming weeks. None of them have any prospects to be in the starting role picture when Tannehill comes back.
Hell maybe I'm crazy too, but the Cutler and CK threads are depressing me and I feel there must be a better course of action... Any ideas?
