Gus Frerotte looks sharper every practice. On one play, he lobbed a perfect 15-yard fade to WR Chris Chambers, who grabbed it in the back corner of the end zone over helpless CB Kris Richard. A.J. Feeley hooked up with WR Danny Farmer on a midrange pass over the middle, which newly arrived S Deveron Harper waved at.

It will be hard to keep WR/KR Wes Welker off the field this season, as he not only catches everything thrown his way but also has the speed to break away. He also has been effectively used on an end-around play.

Saban said LG Jeno James, who is getting stronger since his bout with dehydration, would play as much as he is physically capable Saturday against the Jaguars.

Welker grows on me day by day... he's quickly becoming one of my favorites on the team. How the heck can you not love a guy who kicks field goals, returns punts & kicks (and ended something like a 20 year drought of return for tds), and can play WR.

agreed !!!!!!!

Im glad our Qb's are progressing but one thing that worries me: Could it be that the secondary sucks that bad??? I sure hope that isnt the case.

It's a shame the previous regime didn't have Welker more at WR. From what I recall, he never even took snaps with the offensive unit. And what the **** has happened to Berlin to suddenly make him a good QB?

Go read the Travis Daniels article. They are still LEARNING.

It's not that they suck. It's just going to take some time to get totally comfortable in Saban's complex scheme.

...and when I say "complex," I mean C-O-M-P-L-E-X!

Learning takes patience....something a whole lot of fans on this board are lacking in....

Everything I've read about Frerotte in camp has been positive. Even though he didn't play @ all last year in Minny he did great in 2003 while Dante was injured.

It appears your QB woes might finally be put to rest.

I'm glad as a bills fan, you posted that.

HOWEVER: Problem is, Gus is 34. He is a two year fix at the most. If he plays well like he is so far this whole year, we can definitely win 9 games.

Oh I know their still learning, but the plays that worry me are plays that we get beat DEEP. You cant teach foot speed. I just hope we have enough speed to counter the Wr's that will face this year.

The hope would be Gus can give you 2 years and a rookie QB next year
can get himself ready in a year. Though I think Gus can give you 3
seasons if he pans out, he just turned 34. So that could give a
rookie QB 2 years to get it together.

yay wes!! I remember just a year ago when he landed on our door step from San Diego on a waiver. Their loss or what? He's already a favorite in my eyes.

This thread has me very happy. And it's weird to say it but I'm kind of excited about Ferrotte. And it's been a long time since I was truly excited about the QB position. I figure:

Best case: Gus turns into another Rich Gannon
Worst case: Gus sucks and is supplanted by Feeley, who I believe to be capable.
