You guys really have to get over this Ronnie/Carnell thing. RB is and will be a very good back. He doesn't have to be better than Carnell. Just because he was drafted ahead of Jordan doesn't mean Olajawon was a bust. He just wasn't Jordan.

PS I still think it's foolish to assume that Carnell is never going to catch screens or shift out to the slot. Gruden has been saying since the Senior Bowl that Williams is an underrated pass catcher.
He'll catch screens, but he'll drop a lot of screens too. Ronnie will be catching Marshall Faulk-esque 50-yard TD passes. That's what will eventually distinguish these two players. It'll be just like comparing Marshall Faulk to Curtis Martin -- yeah they're both great runners and they can both catch, but Faulk adds another dimension to the entire offense that Martin doesn't. He creates mismatches and opens up the whole offense with his versatility. Players like that usually need a "spy" on the opposing defense -- someone who basically follows them around the field because they're so versatile and so dangerous from so many places on the field. And with one defender doing nothing but following an offensive player around, what do you think that does for the rest of the offense?

Problem is, with Ronnie weighing in at 233 and running a 4.4 40, who is that defender? Is it a linebacker? Mismatch. Is it a safety? Mismatch (safeties don't run 4.4 40s and they weigh 215 tops). Is it a cornerback? Mismatch (corners weigh 200 tops). It'll probably be a safety, but now you gotta watch out for Chris Chambers because now HE'S got single coverage just because Ronnie is so dangerous. Or if you wanna bring in 5 DBs and use the safety to spy on Ronnie, now Ricky (OR Ronnie) runs all over your 5 DB set.

In other words, at some point the Bucs' offensive coordinator will be wishing Cadillac could do for his offense what Ronnie does for ours.

And it won't be long.

I am beginning to doubt Ronnie has 4.4 40 speed with the pads on and the rock in his hands. If he did, there is no doubt Chris Gamble would have still run him down last weekend on the 53-yarder because he has wheels, but Ronnie would have walked those other 2 Panthers chasing him.

Hamstring

Hamstring pulled on him, that's the only reason he didn't take it to the house. It was talked about at length during the telecast.

And they were working on it on the sideline BEFORE that play.

And don't think the other players in the NFL run their combine speed with pads on either. It's all relative.

He reached for his leg as he pulled up out of bounds. Then we heard that he had a hammy problem the rest of the game, but he played thru it.

That is one of the stupidest comments I've ever seen. I haven't bothered to check but I'm willing to bet that there aren't many players that have been inducted to the Hall of Fame after a three game career.

Prior to the draft it was discussed ad nauseum on this board that Carnell was a better runner but that RB was a better football player. Sure the really simple fans would fall back on the "I want my running back to be the best runner", but the general consensus was that RB did everything else better and was a pretty good runner in his own right. Nothing has occurred this season to change that opinion. I watched portions of the Bucs last game (it was my flip channel on DTV) and I saw Carnell miss at least two blitz pickups in the few plays I watched. On the other hand , the coaches have been amazed that RB never seems to make a mistake in his assignments. Now I recognize that most fans (and even most media members) don't notice these subtleties but they are important. And it could be argued that Carnell is underrated as a pass catcher but it is unquestioned that RB was among the best receivers in the draft at any position. Perhaps some day in the future Carnell or RB will end up clearly being the better player but as of right now I wouldn't trade RB for Carnell.

Is it possible to ever question a player here without people making excuses for him? Even Barry Sanders had his faults/inaccuracies that could be questioned.

There has been ample amount of times in the preseason and first two games to show this. (ie. Ronnies speed breaking outside) It was clear he didn't give up on the run until the end when he felt the pull, he should have been more distanced of them by then. I have watched the game twice and at no time did they say he had a problem prior to that run. So IMO you just made that up.

And no, it is not all relative, some are faster with pads on, it's called "football speed".

Dan Morgan was on the chase too and hes got some serious speed. Even if Ronnies hammy was 100% Morgan wouldve been close behind.

I think Dan Morgan is the fastest player on the field. He definitely would have caught Ronnie....hammy pull or not.

One other note. In the NFL just because you run a 4.4 doesnt mean you can just BLOW past everyone on the field. LBs have that kind of speed too ya know? In case you didnt notice Ronnie had to run THROUGH Minter to bust out on that run. That might of had something to do with him being caught.

I generally disagree with dragging a post from another message board here to discuss unless the original poster is here to defend him/herself.

But that is just me I guess.

My Lord, it is laughable how someone brings up an opinion and people go after that person like a shark sensing blood in the water. :rofl3:
