I think Gase knows he is tied to Tannehill. and this draft was all about giving Tannehill a chance to shine and making him feel like it's his team. Gase knows if Tannehill struggles this year and does not progress that he has to basically start over at QB, which would be the death of this current regime. This is why I think we went heavy on O in This draft.

Gase pre draft
Talk up Tannehill and reassure him that his is our guy, let TH know that he can change plays, start to pick up some depth on the OL in FA

Draft
Get Tannehill better protected in the pocket (finally I hope)
Get Tannehill a Running back who is one of the best at catching balls out of the backfield in the draft
Get Tannehill every type of WR weapon possible / nearly all young, hungry and with great hands and yac.
Get Tannehill another TE who is a great route runner
Don't draft a QB early who is a threat to Tannehill.

This is probably the best call and only call since we were not in a place to draft one of the top QB's, The Dolphins basically had to go Tannehill or bust, if he does not work out we are back to square one at QB witch translates to much more mediocrity. Philbins lack of confidence and support and trust of our QB could have ruined TH, but he has taken it like a man and almost never put other people under the bus even when they clearly deserved it.

If Tannehill has this year to stand in the pocket for more than a tenth of a second and make some throws and he still does not progress than we can all move on. But I think he deserves a chance.

Well! Let's hope(for those that care) that Tannehill and the entire offense can do enough this season.

I agree, no more excuses. Time to nut up or shut up

It's a new system, new coach, need time to adjust to new players....

Just putting it out there..

Its not really about Tannehill like youre putting it. The new staff realizes you need firepower and alpha males on your O and D to legitimately make some playoff runs. Doesnt matter who the QB is I bet they would be building this team the same way. Gase's O in Denver was stacked. Teams that go far generally have playmakers across the board.

But obviously Tannehill will decide his own fate through his play, like all qb's. But I dont think it has anything to do with how they are building the team. They just want talent.

Agreed OP I think it was the best option to cater this year to Tanne.

Worst case scenario, Tanne bombs out, you draft a good QB next year in a hopefully-stronger QB class, and the OL and offensive weapons you drafted this year have a season under their belt in Gase's system, a much better situation to walk into as a high-pick rookie than it would have been this year.
Tanne's gettin paid this year, there's no way he would've been benched.

Who?

This guy?

WEAKNESSES

Can be almost too frenetic. Mind seems to be racing with ball in his hands and he will show a lack of patience at times. Responds to what is in front of him rather than anticipating what is coming. Inconsistent hands with five drops to 44 catches during his career. Can get too dancey when asked to play downhill. Tendency to cut runs toward sideline rather than back into middle of the field. Change-of-pace runner without a go-to value. Suffered broken leg in 2014 and broken arm in 2015.

DRAFT PROJECTION Round 3

SOURCES TELL US

"He's a player who you have to have a plan for because he's not an every-down back and he's too lean to be in around the goal line. I see him as a third down back with special teams qualities and those guys get drafted in the fifth or later." -- NFC West scout

It would have nice to have at least one RB who can pass block.

I think you are molding what happened around what was actually planned. I highly doubt they expect Tunsil to be there where he was, and if not...I doubt a lineman was going to be the priority. Oh...great...a 3rd down back with questionable hands...really needed that. A Landry clone that would probably be projected to be in the slot in the NFL. A KR when we just drafted a KR already... A short TE, who on tape, plays mostly in the slot and can't block...and as you said, a QB who not only isn't a threat to Tannehill, but isn't even very good at all...will only make the team because he was drafted.

Not impressed...

well one thing I can say about thill. he will put up good number. that don't equal to lot of win. if this team go make playoff thill will have to be guy leading not hiding in back.

This offense needs to score more points and part of that equation is protection on the short - mid range throws and running the ball effectively in running situations.
Our running game the last few years was due more to individual effort than a consistent effort by the patchwork oline and the blockers.
Losing Miller is huge, and hopefully Drake and Ajayi will be effective behind a much better 2016 oline featuring 4 1 round draft picks. Both a one cut types, and have some power and burst. Not sure either are home run types.
The oline is really under the microscope this year. It has to become a strength with all that has been invested into it.
Once the oline lives up to expectation, then everything thing else flows smoothly. Better protection, more creative plays and longer developing plays, and the ability to recover from good defensive opponent plays that back us up.
I do not see these picks as giving RT everything he needs to be successful... or else. I see this draft as filling in some major holes, and adding some talent to balance out the roster.
RT will be our QB for the next 5 years. Doughrty might turn out to be a good back up in a few years, and neither Moore or the other QB is a threat to RT. This is RT's team.
My only concern now is stopping the run and getting pressure on the QB. That will be our achilles heel this year. Getting the ball rammed down out defenses throats has not been addressed.

True...he should have the protection and weapons to shine....look for Arian Foster to sign shortly.

Still...we got two big press corners for the new scheme...a mike linebacker in Alonso...and added two safeties.

I think Mario Williams will have a big year replacing Vernon, and I think Jordan Phillips will take the next step.
