This was out of ESPN's PFW Whispers section...
• The CB competition between Drayton Florence and Sammy Davis for the job opposite Quentin Jammer in San Diego never materialized, as Florence clearly outplayed the former first-round pick in camp. As of this writing, Davis was in a battle with the surprising Jamar Fletcher for the team's nickel CB job.

"the suprising Jamar Fletcher"....his drafting marked the beginning of the end of the Dolphins as we knew them. Wanny's first MAJOR draft blunder....many more followed.

Jamar has been nothing but a HUGE surprise for us. He saved 2 games last year and made one of the best INT's Ive ever seen live (fully stretched diving). He has played absolute wonderful this off-season...

He's been doing well in San Diego. Just because Wanny reached for him in the draft (MAJOR reach) and also that he didn't fit into the man on man coverage we used at the time, doesn't mean he's a horrible player. It seems like he's found a home with the Chargers and their CB friendlier zone coverages.

My point is that its classic that this stiff (in Miami) would move on & be a major part of somebodies defense....call me bitter.

You my friend are very smart....IMHO: I think he lost the "swagger" that he needs to have as a CB in the NFL. Not criticizing the Fins organization, but I think Wanny and Co. had a lot to do with his "downfall" in a Fins uniform. You would think having arguably 2 of the best corners in the NFL could help him, but I think it did the opposite- it took away his confidence and the ability to learn 1 v 1 coverage. Hope he snaps out of it. You dont have numbers like him in college if you dont know how to play....just my thought.

Other than the having 2 really good cornerbacks and not really needing them, how as Jamar Fletcher a reach? The guy is considered one of the best cornerbacks to have ever played the college game. Those are generally players that go in the first round

We got David Boston for him so we got the better end of the deal.
I never thought he was that bad, I just didn't think CB was a priority in that draft.
He has been maligned for the pass interference at the end of the NE game a few yrs back, but on review of that play you can see that he had textbook coverage and made a great play on the ball. It was a ridiculous pass interference that he didn't deserve. In fact, the WR on that play went over his back and should have drawn an offensive pass interference.

Good objective observation. He was considered the best cover corner in that draft. He just wasn't what the team needed.

Jamar Fletcher was a 1st-round pick. For him to be BATTLING for a nickel back spot in his 4th or 5th season is a huge disappointment. I mean come on....
