The problem with Chris Chambers IMO is that he doesn't put it in his mind that he's going to dominate his competition. He doesn't put it in his mind that HE'S going to be the guy who wins the game for us. Consequently he makes great plays with his athleticism (which he doesn't have to put in his mind -- it's naturally there on its own), but he doesn't show the hunger and aggressiveness that you see from guys who dominate games at the WR position (Steve Smith, TO, Santana Moss, Javon Walker).

I think if Chambers started putting these things in his mind, we'd start seeing him use his skill and athleticism to create SEPARATION from DBs, and he'd be getting the ball more. As it is now, we see his skill and athleticism only when he's making a tough catch, which is a spontaneous, spur-of-the-moment thing that is pretty much unrelated to how hungry or aggressive a guy is in general.

I remember watching Charles Barkley cover Michael Jordan in the playoffs one year. Jordan was dominating the Sixers (my team), and Barkley insisted on covering him, even though I'm sure he knew Jordan was a much quicker player, because he didn't trust anyone but himself to do as good a job.

THAT's the kind of mentality Chris Chambers needs. He needs to look across at the Pat Surtains of the league and say to himself, "this guy thinks he's gonna dominate me today, but I'm gonna dominate HIM."

I don't think Chambers does that, and I guaranTEE you players like Smith, TO, Moss, and Walker do.

How bout a QB putting the ball where he can catch it, then he would not have to make such "atheletic plays"? I know he has some dropped balls and such but remember Chambers is no 6'4 Randy Moss.

But how about getting some more separation from DBs so the QB doesn't have to be so precise? With his athleticism, Chambers should be running in the open field wide open WAY more than he has been.

He drops A LOT of catchable balls. I would rather see him make the easy catches than the highlight reel catches.

Exactly....hey you can be the best chef in the world....but if all your gettin is low class meat....well your meals are gonna suck.....and if your qb sucks....all you can try to do is make circus catches.....stick Chambers in....hmmmm....in 1984....and hes a pro bowler.

So how is it that when he goes up against the elite DBs in the league he gets routinely shut down? He's got the same QB in those games. There aren't any "shut-down" corners who can shut down the likes of TO and Steve Smith. Chambers gets shut down routinely.

Chambers Isn't The Problem. When Our Qbs Over The Last 5 Years Don't Have A Qb Rating Above 75 He's Never Going To Get The Numbers He Should.

A QB would definitely help the situation, it can't hurt it
OK -- this is turning into a QB discussion. Sure we need a better QB, but it's ALSO the case that Chambers needs to add these qualities to his game.

Your smoking crack he doesn't hardley ever get "SHUTDOWN" QBs can't get the ball to him. I see him open 5-6 times a game and the ball never gets to him. REALIZE that the issue is with the QB, not the WR. Who's the last WR to get 1000 yards for our team??? Maybe that was when we had a QB ala DAN MARINO. #'s don't lie. People just look for another excuse EXCEPT to blame the real problem. THE GD QUARTERBACK!!!

  • Chambers has the physical tools.
  • Chambers lacks the mental make up to get to the next level.
  • He came from a program that never featured the pass or him and was never "the" guy. And importnatly, never had to be "the" guy.
  • Cleary he is not an aggressive player.
  • Cleary he can be dominated by many CB in the league, and is routinely.
  • He got his big contract and went about his business.
  • He has laspes in concentration and effort.
  • Would he make more catches with a better QB, maybe, would he be a true number one WR on many other teams, maybe not.

You saw him open that many times with Surtain covering him the other night? You saw him open that many times with Champ Bailey covering him in week one? You saw him open that many times with Nate Clements covering him against Buffalo?

Sure we need a better QB, but this is why you hear the old refrain about Chambers being "inconsistent." Well he's inconsistent because just about every time he faces an elite corner, he gets shut down.

Santana Moss is a dominant WR???

Good point -- he's never really had to develop the "I'm the guy" mentality. In fact, I can remember only ONE game in his career in which he was the focus. It was the Dallas game on Thanksgiving a couple years ago, and I think the gameplan was to exploit Mario Edwards. Chambers lit it up that day. Maybe we need to PUT the game on him more often. Maybe he'll step up then.

you dont see it when he does cause the pass is so innacurate that chambers has no chance to get it I will be down on chambers the day the he has a qb that throws for 3700 yards and that he only gets 700
