Take that extra day off to have a closed door meeting with the team. Start off with the teams leaders and have them decide if they want to bring Richie back right away. If the leadership approves it Philbin should get the team together and ask the team about it, do a paper ballot (to hide identity) vote and if no one objects bring Richie back in.
Before all this Phiolbin should address the team and say he will shoulder the heat and take the criticism. He will let them know it's a Miami Dolphin family issue before it's an NFL issue.
I say this because I think Philbin needs to put some action behind the whole "cover each others back" and "Dolphin Family" talk that gets thrown around. It seems to me Nobody has anyones back if everyone runs to avoid critisim when things get rough. A family sticks together in hard times and doesn't throw one of their own out into the cold.
I don't intend for any issues with Martin to be overlooked either. I think the Dolphin family should look into that and handle it in house as well, again Philbin being involved in that.
I think in the long run Philbin would get a ton of respect if he did this.
