Dolphins defensive line coach Kris Kocurek awarded Quinn the ax in a meeting Wednesday for having the best game of the group. Written on the ax’s handle: D-Line Pride.

During training camp’s long, hot days, Kocurek challenged his players to “keep chopping wood” — to pursue the ball relentlessly, all over the field. He also wanted his group to “sharpen their tools” every day.

If Quinn or Cameron Wake have an all-pro season, they could end up with a small arsenal in their trophy case, based on Kocurek’s history. Spence played for Kocurek in Detroit in 2017, and said that he gave away a variety of items from an army-navy surplus store as prizes

Hmmm, axe in the locker room...

When rookie coach Jack Del Rio placed a stump of oak and an ax in the Jacksonville Jaguars locker room a few weeks ago as a motivational technique, symbolic of his theme to "keep choppin' wood," it was viewed as a sophomoric technique by some veterans.

Now the move is likely to be regarded as a huge mistake.

The Jaguars on Thursday lost Pro Bowl punter Chris Hanson for an undetermined amount of time -- ESPN.com has learned that he will be sidelined 4-6 weeks and could well miss the balance of the season -- when the fourth-year veteran was accidentally gashed on his right (non-kicking foot) while wielding the ax.”

High school is but if the guys like it no biggie. We carried a big ass tree onto the field in high school. Even brought it on road trips "bringing the lumber". They trade copying us a couple years later, it looked like a Charlie brown tree they had. But it can go wrong. Coach thru a trash can in locker room once, didnt know it had a shoe in it. Shoe flew out, busted a light and hit our star player (Eddie Moores best friend now, blah), our rival school bought a beater and sprayed painted it our colors and put out numbers on it and were hitting it with sledge hammer. They had a diesel guy who went on to play for Clemson then SD, the hammer flew out the handers and shattered a guys face, broke it all up and he was having to wear dentures at 17, but couldve been worse...I guess death or brain damage is only way.

But If they guys like it and gase is fine hopefully it's just dull or sheathed
