Should be break the bank for Vincent Jackson? I know people want Boldin and some other names but Boldin isn't as much of a deep threat IMO as jackson and is an injury liability. The dude just cannot stay healthy. Now in fairness, the guy may be just sandbagging it but since his contract is nearly up, one would think he would be busting his *** to show he is worth the big bucks. While Jackson may not have pushed himself into a top tier wideout, he is really making a case for himself to at least put himself in the category underneath them.

We all know the wideout play is holding this team back. If we had a number one guy (doesn't have to be a top tier but a good wideout) we would win many games IMO even though we lack the linebacking core and have inexperienced cb's and bad safeties.

I don't know the exact on this because I haven't looked into it but I am assuming that with LT really on the downside of his career, they aren't going to want to lose sproles. That leaves Jackson and Sproles but only one can be franchised. I also figure that the NFL isn't going to let its prized commodity go into an uncapped year. That would be very bad for the league.

So, if Sproles is franchised, would it be in our best interests to throw serious money at Jackson and say screw it? I mean I know that is not how our front office works but the TG experiment is all but done IMO. Henne will never progress with the likes of Bess and Camarillo and Hartline, while having what appears to be decent route running skills and has flashed hands at times, will probably never be more than a solid 3rd wideout as well. That leaves Turner, who cannot get onto the field. I don't buy the weak special teams excuse either.

So what do you guys think? I would have to go back and see what our cap number would look like and maybe some our guys would get cut (Porter).

Hell I'd settle for Vincent Price at this point......considering the horror show this WR unit puts forth on Sundays....

The bad part of it all is that I don't think they are dogging it out there. I think these guys literally are playing up to their potential. That falls on the F.O. IMO.

The cap most likely won't be in play next year opening the bank books of willing owners and lining the pockets of big time players. As a result, most options will be re-signed by their respective teams. Trade or draft looks like the only way they improve the WRs.

Vincent Jackson is going nowhere. Book it!

Which makes it interesting. I still personally don't think we will see an uncapped year. That is just me though. What is going to happen when guys demand big money and some big market teams can pay it and then they load up on talent only to find that the league figures out their problems with the owners and the salary cap is reinstated. Your going to have some large market teams WAY over the cap and be forced to have a year end liquidation sale...

If we want a WR we're going to have to either A) Draft a WR or B) trade for Boldin. After the Cardinals deactivated him without giving him notice I'm going to go out on a limb and say he wants to GTFO of there ASAP.

Drafting a WR is nearly pointless considering very few have the lightbulb come on for the first few years. There are exceptions but that is generally the consensus.

As far as trades go, for the kind of WR we need, we have nobody to trade that is expendable on our team. There won't be a team out there willing to give up a top level WR for Ginn.

Ginn would be a start. I'd almost put money that if Ginn gets cut/traded we're going to regret it. I don't know what the **** the guys deal is this season but he's going to become a solid WR. You wait and see.

And I agree with what you're saying about WRs but then why are we all ready to jump off high buildings because we haven't found a #1 WR. We might have one in Patrick Turner.

I don't think turner has the speed to be an number one (ran near 4.6 40'?). The size is there but I think turner could turn into a very solid number two if he actually could get onto the field. Of course they said Jerry Rice was too slow too so we will have to wait and see.

While a number one doesn't have to have 4.4 speed, they need to at least have the ability to play faster than they are and run very precise routes and get open. They usually can augment the route to find the hole in the defense.

That is what kills me about Bess. The guy has the hands but even though he doesn't have the speed, he could be welker II but with better hands. Camarillo is the same way IMO.

If the cap is eliminated, it won't come back. No way the Players Association will buy off on its return. This is a major issue.

There is no way that the NFL is going to let that happen. The game would be ruined as we know it. I sure hope they understand that magnitude of what could eventually happen. Small market teams like buffalo and green bay would be all but forced to fold because they couldn't compete. Hell we aren't exactly a huge market either but bigger than those.

As much as the NFLPA may not agree, we need a system like basketball. You get paid for where you are drafted. Done deal. Rookies making more than pro-bowl veterans is ridiculous. I don't see how anyone couldn't agree with that.

We need to go big!!! Enough of the science experiments/diamond in the rough projects! We have enough of those, there nothing wrong with swinging for the fences every once in a while.

Jackson will be asking for #1 money, so for the guy who says he's not there yet, you better HOPE he's a #1 tier receiver by seasons end cause he's going to want a HUGE contract.

Moreover, if the league goes uncapped, teams get 2 franchise tags - Sproles, Jackson.

Finally, the Chargers are on their last limb. They already dropped Chambers and LT and Gates are not getting any younger. If the Chargers let Jackson go they won't be a competitive team. It's not going to happen.

Jackson will be in San Diego next season, no doubt about it.

By top tier, I mean Andre Johnson and Reggie Wayne. Jackson is good but not THAT good.

Pay the man top tier money then. He is the kind of player we need. Drafting a guy is NOT the answer for this team. We tried that for the past few years. Didn't get us really much in return yet. If you stick to the past history of the NFL, it takes a few years for these guys to come on unless your getting that next Fitz or Randy Moss. I don't see those guys coming through but then again we could have said that when they were drafted too. You also have to remember that ronnie is 27 and ricky is older. If you draft another guy that take 2-3 years to come on, that makes ronnie pretty much hitting that 30 year old point of no return. If they go this route, they damn well better make sure that the guy we get is NFL ready as a rookie. This isn't to say I wouldn't be happy with boldin but I would be happier with Jackson.

Anyway, SD has more issues than just their offense. They will need to revamp the linebacking core because rumor has it they are not impressed with Merriman. It could be a smoke screen but who knows.

Of course we could always get T.O....lolz!
