Of course, there are positives and negatives about a agreement being reached or not. But this morning on espn, john clayton named teams that will be in "huge cap trouble" if an agreement is not reached.

Teams include titans, redskins, vikings, jets .....and a couple of others i cannot think of now, 2 hours later.

But clayton gave a list of possible "big" cuts that would be forced to be made if the agreement is not made before friday....The list included McNair, Ramsey, Pennington, and Culpepper.....as well as 2 or 3 other possible Aqua Quarteracks.

Add Brees to this list if he is not "franshised" and I would say that there is a great chance that Miami has a new quarterback next season that CAN take us the the superbowl

Brees can't be franchised anymore. The deadline has already passed.

its gonna be great if we can finally get a real qb...we haven't had 1 since marino...i'm sick and tired of all these backup qbs...i have my heart set on brees because he has played great over the last 2 years and he is only 27...he can be our franchise qb for the next 6-7 years...if we don't get brees, i'm confident saban will get someone good...

Vikings are NOT in cap trouble. In fact, they have the most money to spend.

Yeah, if the article Clayton wrote is right, we will have to chop off some money before we even approach free agency.

Miami Brees; Chargers not optimistic on deal

The majority of talk surrounding the Miami Dolphins in recent days has regarded the quarterback position. The team made its' intensions clear by scouting collegiate quarterbacks extensively, and was seen talking with a number of agents with signal-calling clients at the Indianapolis Combine.

Gus Frerotte is clearly not the answer in Miami, and even head coach Nick Saban has publicly acknowledged this recently.
Who heads the list to inherit the mantle of Griese, Marino, and, um, Frerotte and Fieldler, and become the next starting quarterback of the Dolphins?

Early speculation centered on Minnesota Vikings quarterback Daunte Culpepper, who was and still could be on the trading block, depending on who you want to listen to.

Another player, however, which has quietly been the focus of the Dolphins organization since he was not labeled with the franchise tag last week: Drew Brees.

Brees, the starting quarterback of the San Diego Chargers is at the top of the Miami wish-list, Scout.com has learned.

Saban is looking for a young veteran quarterback to lead the resurgent Dolphins in the 2006 season and beyond. In Brees, the Dolphins are looking at a player that has played well the past two seasons but is coming off shoulder surgery.

"The Dolphins are in a situation where they need a quarterback if that team is going to keep moving forward. (Gus) Frerotte is only going to do so much there, they (Miami) need a quarterback that is accurate, fiery, and has tasted some success," one AFC East player personnel director noted.

The Chargers have not ruled out Brees' returning to the team in 2006, but it appears unlikely with the amount of attention Brees has received prior to the free agent player signing period.

"We would like to have Drew (Brees) return, but we have to do what is in the best interest of the organization. He (Brees) is coming off shoulder surgery and you never know about that type of injury or issue," a team source tells Scout.com. "We have exchanged some numbers with them (Brees representatives), and it doesn't appear we will get anything done with him prior to free agency."

Brees "quietly the focus of the Dolphins' organization"? More like th eleague's worst-kept secret.

Yeah really. Quietly what? Talking into a megaphone? Everyone has speculated that Brees and Miami fit together like peanut butter and jelly (please refrain from singing the song, you know what I am talking about).

there is no superbowl in our immediate future, and without a cba, there is no legitimate veteran qb, either.

You mean you don't like Brian's version?

I'd love to have him as well IF he can prove the sergury he had over the offseason wont hinder his ability to throw the ball deep.
