This offense will CREATE big name receivers, not require them

After having slept on this...we can go into this season with what we have at WR. We're not going to the Super Bowl this year, and hopefully this coaching staff can develop our talent. Hartline can catch the ball, so can Bess. The staff just has to COACH the players and "put them into positions to succeed" , and I think we can do that. I mean, how many MORE catches or TDs does drafting a WR high get us?

For me, this is the biggest question going into next year. Regardless of who wins the QB job, we know we have at least serviceable play there. I'm anxious to see if the new system can let what we have be more successful or whether our lack of a true lock at WR is a huge detriment.

we have a coaching staff thats willing to develope talent. i trust their decisions

not really. We have a "number 1 receiverS", he just isn't a big name.

who are you alluding to?

Hartline?
Bess?
........BJ Cunningham?

dont confuse not being a big name and 2 touchdown in 29 games, they are slightly different. this thought that "The WCO doesnt need a number 1 receiver" is a total fallacy.

Who was the Patriots top WR last year? NOT TE.

Wes Welker. I believe that Bess is as good as Welker. So I am not at all concerned.

frp, watching grudens qb camp on tannehill, if thats the sort of offense we are gonna run then hartline looks perfect for the job. it looked like a lot of fullers catches were comebacks and he wound up going out of bounds. yes i'd like a reciever that could turn it up the field wiggle twice and be gone, but we have some homerun hitters in backfield so as long as our recievers keep the chains moving then im content with them.

i second that again!receivers can only be as good as the qb!right now until they prove otherwise we have a bunch of 3's and 4's .

jordy nelson and greg jennings are very good recievers that helped create GBs big name offense. they would excel on any NFL team
I don't think those receivers would excel at any other offensive system.
As example in New England's offense most got-to receivers fail because the scheme offers advantage for strong and tall TE not flashy receivers.
Also many teams are based on the idea of winning big yardage as result of separation, so these kind of routing receivers are useless there.
But of course that any WCO offense should welcome any of these guys and get similar production compared with their Packers numbers.

I was alluding to Hartline, yes. Like it or not, he's our #1 WR. He's going to get thrown to a lot this year, if he can't catch the ball...that's on the coaching staff. I dont see the NEED of having Andre Johnson out there if we don't even know who our starting QB will be. People have this facsination with WRs but they're really just an ornament.

I honestly think Philbin and Ireland both agree that a diva-WR is not a back breaking need right now, they only complicate things.. i trust them more than I trust my own initial reaction of ZOMGZ WE DIDNT DRAFT A WR!!!!!!

I understand where you are coming from but there is a clear difference between a diva wide receiver, a number 1 receiver, and a guy who by default is lining up as the number one WR on the depth chart.

All of the verbage of people throwing out the West Coast offense not needing a number 1 receiver makes no sense to me at all. Greg Jennings is a top 5 or 6 receiver in this league, regardless of offense. Roddy White is a top 5 or 6 receiver in this league, regardless of offense.

Brian Hartline will be our "number one receiver" but anyone expecting anything above 600 yards and 4 TD's from him are going to be pretty dissapointed. This offense, just like every offense, needs a number 1 Receiving option, whether it be WR, TE and with the successful teams in this league.. more than one of them. I am very pleased with the holes we plugged up during the draft, but anyone who thinks this receiving core is going to shine now because now its the West Coast Offense just better hold their horses. We have a receiving core of 2's and slot guys... and collectively, is weak

yeah...........:ponder:
gonna disagree there. big time

So you honestly believe that Jordy Nelson would put up the numbers he did last year as a number #1 receiver on say, the Bucs?

Not every team has one of these "Elite Number 1 receiving options"...just like not every team has a Primier running back stable...or two great pass-catching TEs.

i understand where you're coming from, I felt it as of two days ago. But after talking with some friends and reading some posts on the internet, i realize: Hey, let's try to find out what we have first, before we start looking for the next Jerry Rice.
