When we run straight up the middle, what is the motivation here? Maybe some football experts and couch coaches can tell me. I have noticed on runs outside Ronnie and Morris can get speed and break more tackles. I know we gotta keep the defense honest, but 2 plays back to back yielding no gain is tough to swallow. What gives?

i'm not so sure i agree

running up the middle, at times, allows ronnie to use his power to run over some people. It also allows our offensive line, which is fairly bigger, to use its strength to push around smaller DLs

Yeah Ronnie is more of a between the tackles runner who can bounce it outside. Most of the time he goes outside, it's because he bounces it out. Also, if just keep running to the outside, it allows the defense to stretch out with takes away the flats from the passing game. Running in the A gaps is a must in the NFL.

I belive morris' run was up the middle. I guess Mularkey sees something up top that we dont when he calls that play. I guess Im looking for more consistent yards per play, isnt everybody?

I think we need to get Jeno James back in there at left guard. I hope his knee problems are improving. We need everyone we can get.

guess you missed a couple Ronnie runs and a Sammie run yesterday where Ronnie ran for 16 and 8 and Sammie for 55...RIGHT UP THE MIDDLE!

running up the middle has been used since the begining of football for a reason. It works.

The isolation run play is almost needed in any offense. It is the most basic and easiest play to run block but at the same time easily defended.

Running inside the line effectively is every teams dream. Problem is that Ronnie stutters and jukes too much. He needs to hit those holes alot more deciseively. I think he would do better if he stopped sputtering so much. I do agree that when we are not having any success up the middle that we should go outside more, though. So all in all, I would say you are right because I found myself screaming at the T.V. many times this year over that same issue and the fact that we are running too much on first downs, but in all reality, we want to be able to break through the middle.

Hate to give kudos, but when the Pats offense is clicking, Watch the blocking they are pulling people, the receivers are blocking 5 yards up the field. For the Dolphins, Ricky has the ability to make an average offensive line LOOK GOOD and Ronnie is the same way. Strong enough to get through the initial line as long as the defenders are kept busy, not dominated, just kept busy enough for him to get to the hole. Not to many defenders gonna take Ricky or Ronnie down with one hand.

The play that kills me is the fact that we try to run the halfback pass in the redzone every time we try. The purpose of that play is to get the DB's to bite on the run and leave the WR's open. But when you use this play in the red zone a DB can bite on the Run and still have a chance to get back into coverage as Surtain did against the Chiefs it completely elimnates the purpose of this play. Because the wide reciever has no where to run away to. We were trying to do it again yesterday and Morris was smart enough to hold on to the ball and take a loss on the play.

No offense torer71finfan, as far as you being so knowledgable about football (Praise you), if you read the quote you highlighted where I said "Maybe some football experts can tell me.." That smarty, means that Im ASKING for input and expertise on the matter. As far as your remark, it was not necessary since I acknowledged my desire to learn from others. "I guess we can really tell who cant comprehend around here", no offense.

if you were to run off-tackles and pitches all game, it would likely be easy to stop. You need better offensive line play and downfield blocking for that, and Miami just doesn't have the line for it. Although Brown's big game against Chicago was indeed mostly those types of runs.
