This team doesn't have the FEEL of a collossal failure...

Any team that went 7-1 on the road including beating the eventual SB champ (who won it all with the same roster except for 1 addition), had the Pittsburgh game stolen out from under them and with a few nice bounces could well have ended up 9-7 shouldn't be discounted IMO. No Henning, Chowder replaced by one of the best defenders on last season's best defense, a more mobile and elusive Henne (and better fall back than Thiggy in Moore) a potential elite center, more seasoning for our young CB studs, the return of the Big 10DPOY from injuries....and a multi-dimension weapon in Reggie only solidifies this contention. Oh did I mention Mike Nolan???

I think Chad Henne could have like an 85 QB Rating and this team still go 6-10. The ground game does not look healthy to me, and I'm a little worried about a defensive back slide to be honest.
Chad Henne is obviously the biggest question mark but I would venture to say at least 8-8 if he has an 85 QB rating. I agree that the ground game is iffy but I disagree with the defensive backslide worries. There are too many positive signs, much depth, and areas on this defense that can only get better as the season progresses. Most of the players on this team are at or entering their prime.

The Giants in 2006: 8-8. 2007: 10-6 Super Bowl Champs. Eli's QB rating wasn't even that great, it was like 72 and he threw 23 TDs to 20 INTs. Turned it on in the Playoffs.

A team that was .500 with a young QB should never be counted out before the season. We don't know what will happen. Forget the morons who predict the Phins will only win 2 or 3 games, they're haters and homers. It's possible that could happen, but just as possible if not more that they win 9 or 10 games and get a wild card. Let the season play out.

I don't know that it ever does feel like that.

Even in 2007, there was a lot of optimism. The idea was pretty simple. The Dolphins had a great defense built by Nick Saban that would continue to be coached by Dom Capers, in fact they added to that defense by signing Joey Porter, and the only big problem was the offense where you had "guru" Cam Cameron to revamp everything. To this day that all still SEEMS like a sound idea. But the wheels fell off all that rather quickly, and I think in hindsight is when people look back and say oh well we kind of knew that was coming.

Let's say the Dolphins ARE an abject failure this year. One year from now, are you going to look back on it and say, "Boy, I didn't see that one coming at all"?

I think we both know that's not true.

It's hard to predict awesomely bad, just as it's hard to predict awesomely good (in most cases). So there's no way you can go into this season thinking this team is going 1-15 or even 3-13.

But at the same time...there are lot of predictions within the 'normal' ranges of 6-10 to 10-6...and I think more of them steer toward 6-10 than 10-6. Could be that everyone is just being fooled and the Dolphins really will turn it around. Don't know if I'm betting on that, though.

true people feel like its obvious that we are going to fall apart and that are all the signs are there. The panthers I assume had no clue they would go from 8-8 to 1-15 in a year and they had some talent.

I like the mentality we have so far. There is definitely a different feel to this team. I hope that translates to more wins.

The addition of Bush will create some nasty mismatches for opposing defenses. They're going to have to man up Marshall and Bess once Bush gets going underneath. If Henne can hit 40% of his long balls, then it'll stretch defenses out. We have a comparable offense to the Pats, if not a better equipped one....we just don't have Brady and an o-line that gives us all day to pick apart defenses . This season will ride on Henne's play. Period.

whether i think this is gonna be a good season or bad doesnt matter - i agree with the original poster on this. The team certainly has more "swagger" and confidence right now. They are talking a little more in public, they seem happy about being more aggresive and they seem confident. i wonder if parcells leaving and getting rid of henning really opened up this team. Sparano and Ireland might be the decendants of the older generation but that doesnt mean they dont think like their peers as well instead of just blindly following the ultra conserative mentors. im excited.

BUT

this is all after we pummeled carolina last week. if we revert back to our atlanta performance tonight this whole thread will be irelevant as finheaven will be back to 1-15 predictions. I am of the beleif that we need to show something tonight too though. this team needs to consistantly compete. if they cant put 2 good games together in a row against a below average and a average-slightly above team we are going to have problems.

BOY, was I wrong or WHAT!??

Wow...

CK was so right...

let me confirm it for you... It's a TOTAL Failure !

I agree...The players like Sparano and I think they have a chip on there shoulder...They want to prove the Ross wrong for even thinking about getting rid of him...The Defense is gunna be nasty...And Chad cant be any worse...I think he will improve alot with Daboll at the the helm...

that chip has netted them 0-3

It's a top to bottom failure...starts with the clueless owner, to insecure/paranoid G.M., to bumbling idiot of a Head Coach.

Many people in the media, and some fans, expect the Dolphins to fall apart this season. They expect them to collapse under the pressure of a coaching staff on the hot seat.

We have all witnessed it before, with the infamous Wanny breakdown in 2004, and even with Saban in 2006. You got the sense with those teams were ready for a downward spiral. Wanny and Spielman went into all out desperation mode in 2004 once Ricky quit. The writing was on the wall from the onset. To top it off, you could clearly see that Wanny lost control of the team and himself. He was a nervous wreck.

I believe the same could be said of Saban, even though many of us had high expectations for that season. You could tell Saban was lacking in confidence from the first game when he was hesitant throwing that challenge flag. Culpepper wasn't healthy and everyone knew. He realized his mistake early on and was prepared for the failure.

Now, with this group, I get a different feeling. Sparano and Ireland don't appear desperate. They actually appear confident. They have made no moves of sheer desperation such as Wannspiel did in 2004 (3rd round pick for Lamar Gordon?). Instead, Sparano has calmly gotten the team ready, embraced a philosophy change and has spoken with confidence. You see that confidence coming across within the team itself, with veterans and newcomers each putting forth a confident persona to the outside world.

Henne is a question mark, but I have also noticed a change in his demeanor and attitude as well, and his teamates appear to notice that as well, having mentioned it.

I could be wrong, but this just feel like one of those years where everything rides off a cliff.

well not really sure how it doesnt feel that way exactly. this team is 0-3 afterall and will be heavy road dogs in the next 2 games. 0-5 is very likely. with a brutal schedule the rest of the way and a team with talent, but very large holes, no confidence, and a poor head coach. how exactly are the wheels supposed to hang on at that point???

give me a break, this season looked very much in danger after that home loss to new england, and it certainly does look to be coming to fruition. is 4-12 not the wheels coming off? cause it certainly doesnt look like this team is going to finish any better than 6-10. that doesnt seem to be a reason for optimism to me.

a terrible season, complete with a new regime, and a locker room of guys that dont know how to win, have never won at this level, and no confidence? id say that epitomizes the wheels falling off.
