From a talent standpoint yes but mainly from a leadership and veteran standpoint. Those guys would of been pillars of this team this year. Solid veterans u can lean on in times of crisis and could pull u outta tough spots. Who are we relying on now mike wallace and phillip wheeler? All around joke im sorry

Yes, Ireland's vaunted moves this off season have been abject disasters. Wallace is a bust. Jordan has shown nothing, Do GM's ever get fired mid-season?

Joe Phillibin's way of leading, is to to get rid of all the leaders we had. He got rid of every guy the players followed, or whoever spoke up. People like him can only lead, when they surround themselves with only followers. This is a rudderless ship !!!

I watched Detroit win at the w/e, which was the Reggie Bush show. The losing team put on a Brandon Marshall show, before one too many bad QB plays cost them. Sean Smith has 2 INTs for the season and is playing very solidly in a man scheme. Karlos Dansby is still a monster LB, now for Arizona. Jake Long is a solid tackle, though maybe not worth his salary. Dan Carpenter is more or less as good as Sturgis. Davone Bess is having a nice season for Cleveland and is scoring important TDs. Tony McDaniel and Kendall Langford are both having excellent seasons in the trenches.

My issue isn't that I want all these guys back (though I'd take some of them in a heartbeat). It's that we cut bait on good football players who cost draft picks and/or big guaranteed salaries, replaced them with equal or inferior players and got nothing for the guys we let go. We churned for churning's sake and got virtually no reward.

I hate coaches who fit players to systems. You have to fit the gameplan around your good players. Otherwise you keep churning and losing out. We need to keep the good guys and only let them go in a trade where we benefit with picks and players. What's allowing this happen is the slavish adherence to "scheme" and a salary cap obsession that isn't setting us up for anything but bloated salaries for unproductive players we signed to replace productive players.

In fairness its not like those guys ever won anything for us when they were here.

And the irony of all ironies is everyone of those guys was basically pushed out of the organization. I dont remember who said it but it def came out multiple times in the offseason that philbin wasn't fond of that group. I can only assume it was Armando or Omar so take it for what its worth.

I know you could argue money was a factor, sure. But you can't purge your strongest leaders and not expect some issues. And wow, they got burned big time.

DEFINITELY missing bush. Makes no sense as he was a bargain.

I understand you can't pay everyone but to let them all go? not a good plan, I think I would have kept Bush, Long and Dansby and would not have given Wallace all that money.....no one was even in the biding with us on Wallace, we are paying him superstar money and he is avg if you can throw it long enough to make him a threat which we can't and below avg with out it....no body control, hands not good, can't catch in traffic....just fast.....

Of those 4, I'd have kept just Bush. Long maybe, but he was not worth his asking price and I'm pretty sure most knew it, he has been regressing.

Reggie Bush is exhibit A for firing the coaching staff, IMO.

I'm not sure we need an exhibit B.

Long wanted more $$ than he was worth. But Bush and Dansby we absolutely miss. Burnett too. Wheeler and Ellerbe are awful.

Bess? :sidelol:
