Many people say a team takes on the Mental toughness of the Coach. Might be true! Certain things that have happened over the course of this season so far tells me this team lacks consistency in being a mentally tough bunch. What things for example?

1) Blowing leads
2) Losing games that we should win

But probably more glaring

1) Allowing TDs right after we've score!
2) That near disaster at the end of of the Pittsburgh game

I don't know what the solution is But this can't continue going forward. Perhaps winning and more experience will toughen us up. But, sometimes the effort and heart of this team needs to be questioned.

We need to find a Bryan Cox.
I garantee the guy who pulled Starks sack would still be on the ground.

I think these sorts of perspectives on the "mental" qualities of teams fail to take into account the fact that there's another team out there with its own drive and will to win.

What, are you just supposed to be able to go out there and do whatever you want, regardless of the fact that there's another 53 guys on the opposite sideline who likely want to win at least as much?

After what this team has been through, the fact that they are winning at all shows mental toughness

I think this team showed a lot of mental toughness yesterday and they've been showing mental toughness since bully-gate by staying together and staying focused...4-2 since that point.

Do you have any idea how many games this franchise has won in temperatures below freezing? It's not many.

So the Dolphins go into Pittsburgh and beat a surging Steelers team fighting for their own shot at the playoffs and the team lacks mental toughness? All this after severe media scrutiny and an NFL investigation....

Guess what? They should be 9-4 at minimum. Further how close where they to losing that game because they thought they had it won and were half-assing it!

No one is upset we won, Clearly! But, IMO based on games year to date its a completely fair statement to say, "This team needs to get mentally tougher down the stretch." Which means

1) Eliminate giving up two score leads
2) Eliminate giving up scoring plays right after we score
3) Better overall effort

Could not agree more. They do not know prosperity and cannot handle success.

They won their last two games because they played the 2nd half. Until last week, we were, I believe, 1-3 after leading through the first half. Think about what this team has been through over the last month or so. I think we have some tough guys here.

Yeah that last play was ridiculous. With the way our D DOMINATED after we got a 3 point lead it would have been tragic to lose on that play considering for much of it i felt our guys were standing around.

 WTF are you rambling on about???

This team (especially Tannehill) showed great mental toughness following that pick six. We could have easily packed it up, but we fought like hell to come back and win that game in conditions this team isn't exactly used to. Big props especially to Philbin for having this team ready to play and come away victorious after a big win against the Jets. Sounds like we handled success just fine if you ask me.

Mentally tough? I dunno if that's the word. We do need to cut down on brain farts, but I don't think we are a group of mental midgets.

I mean the fact that these guys have had to deal with so much media scrutiny and are in the thick of the playoff race tells me they aren't mentally weak. Now do we have some stupid players? Sure.

The word choice may not have been the best. But, I think the point is pretty clear. Also, lets not act like they weren't having these "Brain Farts" before the whole Media(Martin-Ingoc) stuff came out.

I think with more game experience we are getting there. Slowly! Ultimately though I'm starting to point the finger more at the coaching staff than I am the players.

How do you as a coaching staff allow your players to give up score after score right after we have capitalized?
How do you as a coaching staff allow your players to celebrate and half-ass it on the field in those critical last seconds?

It's not a talent problem with this team. We clearly have the talent to compete with most teams in this league.

This is about as speculative as this board gets. Now we're talking about what's inside the hearts and minds of people we've never met.

Moreover, if a person here has the opinion that the team is mentally weak or mentally strong (either one), they're likely going to exhibit an even greater degree of confirmation bias than we usually see here, given that since we're essentially reading minds, there's absolutely nothing objective with which to dissuade them! ;)

Take whatever is said here with a huge grain of salt. The posts in this thread will be the equivalent of a Rorschach inkblot test.

We just went into Pittsburgh when both teams are fighting for their playoff lives and came from behind in the 4th quarter in terrible weather and beat them.....you can't get much mentally tougher than that......
