This team NEEDS to get mentally Stronger!

This is about as speculative as this board gets. Now we're talking about what's inside the hearts and minds of people we've never met.

Moreover, if a person here has the opinion that the team is mentally weak or mentally strong (either one), they're likely going to exhibit an even greater degree of confirmation bias than we usually see here, given that since we're essentially reading minds, there's absolutely nothing objective with which to dissuade them! ;)

Take whatever is said here with a huge grain of salt.

If your EYES can't show you half-ass attempts, Lack of hustle, unwillingness to make tackles then stick with your stats. This thread is not for you.

I disagree. I wonder how many teams would have folded already after that Tampa Bay loss. Your team is front page news for the largest in season football scandal since....well..I dont know...ever. You were on pace to have your second year QB get sacked a record number of times. You basically begin the playoffs, a full month earlier, starting with two roads trips...one to New York, and one to Pittsburgh.

If you arent proud of how this team has handled itself....meh....what can I tell you. I think they have shown ALLOT of mental toughness....

 WTF are you rambling on about???

This team (especially Tannehill) showed great mental toughness following that pick six. We could have easily packed it up, but we fought like hell to come back and win that game in conditions this team isn't exactly used to. Big props especially to Philbin for having this team ready to play and come away victorious after a big win against the Jets. Sounds like we handled success just fine if you ask me.

Agreed on coming back from the pick six and esp. RT.

However, the team too often has gone up on teams and yielded points right back. They have had three ten point leads this year and the opponent has come back and won two them...yesterday would have been three.

I think they lack a killer instinct and much of that is to the youth of the team, but much has to go to the feet of the HC. Teams reflect their HC.

I agree Shou completely.

Its the classic case of..heres a glass of water, is it half full, or half empty?

I think these sorts of perspectives on the "mental" qualities of teams fail to take into account the fact that there's another team out there with its own drive and will to win.

What, are you just supposed to be able to go out there and do whatever you want, regardless of the fact that there's another 53 guys on the opposite sideline who likely want to win at least as much?

Yes! This. I was thinking this yesterday when I expected to see fans nitpick and expect better but they're looking from a view that is not in perspective. I'd ::thumbs up:: your post but for some reason it's not there.

Hayden...at some point in time you have to be able to recognize a shift in the tides though. Nobody is saying this team is Playoff tested....but I think its a bit disingenuous to not recognize what this team has done. The mere fact that more and more people are talking about Philbin as a Coach of the Year now should be telling ....

Shouldn't matter....finish whats left, you don't waste beer.

If we were Steelers fans would we be saying that they are not mentally tough, blowing a 28-24 4th quarter lead to a warm weather team whose QB hasn't seen snow in his life?

Guess what? They should be 9-4 at minimum. Further how close where they to losing that game because they thought they had it won and were half-assing it!

No one is upset we won, Clearly! But, IMO based on games year to date its a completely fair statement to say, "This team needs to get mentally tougher down the stretch." Which means

1) Eliminate giving up two score leads
2) Eliminate giving up scoring plays right after we score
3) Better overall effort

I total agree. Some people on this board think that if we win a game that means the team is perfect and full of probowlers. People need to get real. Time and time again we score and the defense gives it right back. They need to learn to finish each half better. Happy we won but we have a long way to go.

Ozzy rules!!

I give them a ton of credit for staying afloat with all the negative attacks from the Martin Saga. Most of that credit should go to Joe.

However, the fact is they have come out flat after extended time off, listless after half time way too much, blowing big leads etc. At some point, these cannot become common.

So you come to a message board to talk to people who only agree with you? Where's the half-ass attempts? Unwillingness to make tackles? Stuff like that happens on all teams. But fans tend to blow isolated events and make it a character issue. Don't tell me this play, and that play. Who? Because if it's a trend that needs to be addressed, then you should be able to label players. Not, "This guy missed a tackle," or "this guy wasn't sprinting down the field in 0 degree weather."

But wait, doesn't that mean there were two mentally weak teams out there yesterday? ;)

Part of the issue here is that we're so wrapped up in the Miami Dolphins that we tend to see everything they do without regard for the other team on the field and whatever they're experiencing. Call it "homercentrism" or something. :)
