I was just pondering this and now I'm worried that, if Capers doesn't get the head coaching job, he may just leave instead. I was just reading the article that reminded us that Capers has yet to sign the contract that was offered to him, and it was stated that Capers wants to wait and see who the coach will be because he wants to make sure he and the new coach would mesh.
My thought is this: Is it realistic to think that Capers would want to work under the man who just beat him out for the job? I think it's fair to say that Capers may simply walk away from the Dolphins and say that his philosophy just wouldn't work with the new coaches philosophy, and that he just thought it best to go. And he'd be able to use that reasoning no matter which coach is hired.
You have to consider a mans pride (and ego) in this situation. Ask yourself: If you were working for a company and were interviewed for a job, but ended up being passed over in favor of someone outside the company, would you want to stay and work under him? Not likely.
Still, I do think it is possible that Capers would stay -given the amount of money he'd be making as a coordinator. BUT, it's a legitimate concern that hasn't really been discussed very much.
Thoughts?
