• The Dolphins explored the possibility of packaging a player and a draft pick to move from the 16th pick in the draft to near the top to select one of the top quarterbacks. Saban said that was too much to pay and the team ultimately traded for Daunte Culpepper. "We went ahead and took the guy we could get," Saban said. "If the opportunity presents itself to get a quality, young quarterback in the draft, we will do it."

Yeah i was just reading that on profootballtalk.com but i didn't really believe it. Now that we got Culpepper i could care less but had we not gotten Culpepper i think we could have easily gotten Cutler or Young.

i think it still has to be a smokescreen.......
Wouldnt make much sense to grab one now, even if they were there at 16.

That would totally kill culpepper and the rest of the teams morale, as it would show that saban doesnt have confidence in dante recovering from the injury and being our future QB.

Had Saban packaged a player and draft pick to move up we would not have gotten an expereinced QB who is a known commodity like DC. Look at how many rookie QB's have been busts like Ryan Leaf. Even with a gimpy leg we at least know that DC has a rocket arm and can find receivers.....just hope his knee has healed by week one.

I really think we'll get someone in rounds 2 or 3. Someone like Omar Jacobs.

ESPN the Magazine, has an NFL Draft issue out and it looks like Jacobs has fallen quite far.....possibly down to the 4th round or later.....his mechanics are really being questioned and they said he had a bad senior year at Bowling Green. At one point a few years ago people were talking about a possible Heisman for Jacobs and now he is probably ranked around the 10th best QB in the draft. I would not mind drafting a QB like UAB's Darrell Hackney.....late in the first day. Ohhh and we don't have a 2nd round pick at this time.

If we had more DP's this year I believe we would draft one most likely on day two, but I doubt we draft one this year. Maybe a slight outside chance this year we use one of the 7th's to do so at best, IMO. I think the odds are better next year.

Cutler or Young over Culpepper....you must be kidding. I think drafting a young QB is still the route to go, with our 3rd round pick, specially if we can't get a backup QB in free agency.
