An outsiders perspective:

Miami Dolphins: Is Ryan Tannehill the guy?

The Dolphins have to ask themselves once again if Ryan Tannehill is their guy of the future. Tannehill has only played in 18 of Miami’s last 42 games, as myriad injuries have plagued the once-promising quarterback for the better part of the last three years. Along with that, when he has played, the numbers just aren’t where they should be for a franchise quarterback. There should be a couple of possible free agents the team could bring in if they wish. The draft doesn’t appear to have the top-end prospects like this past year. The Dolphins have been on the decline since their fast start this season, but a true franchise quarterback could change all of that heading into the future. Tannehill is 30 years old, so if we’re still asking whether he really is the guy or not, he’s probably not the guy, but just a guy.

One of Ryan Tannehill's best traits was the fact that he was tough and durable. I never doubted his toughness, but missing nearly two years raises significant durability issues. For that reason, I think the team moves on.

That said, I think the best approach is to load up on defense in the upcoming draft as that's where the talent lies. Take a swing on a mid-tier quarterback, find a better backup option than Osweiller and see if Tannehill can stay healthy and rebound. 2020 has more promise at the qb position.

I thought Ryan’s pocket presence was at his best his rookie season. Not sure what happened since then.

Ehhh he bailed the pocket backwards back then. Imo a lot of it is muscle memory with his guards in his lead leg.

Dallas thomas for 3 plus years can get in a guys head. It’s the staffs fault for running out that guy as long as they did.

Dallas Thomas....what a franchise setting back pick that was.

I think all those sacks over the years took a toll on him. I never liked his pocket presents and expect regression from here on in. I'd be surprised if he's not put on IR this year and we move on

Tannehill has a strong arm, but poor pocket presence. His best chance for success would be behind a physically dominating o-line with a strong running game to take the pressure off of him. Plus, an above-average defense would help a lot. Unfortunately, both Philbin and Gase refused to build a "real" o-line, refused to establish a strong running game, and their respective defenses (which are alarmingly similar) couldn't stop the grandmothers at the local Bingo Hall from scoring.

Tannehill's ceiling is as a half-decent game manager, but only with an above-average supporting cast; he can't carry a team the way that Marino did. Philbin's regime ruined Tannehill, and Gase's regime left him broken... he's done.

No and no. I think any QB other than BO would be as good after seven years.

Gase tried to build one this year but injuries have ruined that
