First of I want to give props to WH for finaly taking a head on approach, the desicion to keep Capers along with the GM>Coach format are remarkable desicions. On the other hand, I want to give my input on the HC position, I hate the run, run, pass, punt approach we had with Wanny, though I did like it when Norv Turner or Chan Gailey mixed it up a little with a screen or misdirections, until Wanny handcuffed them again.

I also liked the extreme bipolar approach under Linehan where we would run it wild, to then go 40yds deep the very same drive. I hated the short passing game under Mularkey same as his moronic, silly trick plays.

But I have never seen an OC be so creative, within a a conservative playbook as B Schottenheimer, I dont know if you guys caught the NE/NYJ first game, where he called like 5 consecutive no huddles, silent snap count run plays in the 3rd qtr, we are talking about the Jets right, Kevan Barlowe is their RB, they where a bottom 5 rushing offense against a top 5 rushing defense, and in that entire game they ran (as a team) for 150+ yds, and scored on the ground averaging 4.5 yds per carry. Thats being creative a no huddle no snap count on running plays is very productive, tires the defense, the Olineman where just exploding, not blocking any lanes, just pushing their man as further back as posible, their RB wasnt hitting a hole, he was hitting the LOS, and that killed the Pats front 7.

Against us, a very balanced, aggresive top 5 defense, they knew we would blitz the house at them, they knew we would cover and pursue aggresively, they knew we where BIG and athletic, what did he do? Killed us with playaction and screens, Leon Washintons screens where painful, because even if we did take him down, he was burning like 10 seconds dancing around our guys, and in a game as close as that, Time of Possesion is even more important.

Other than Gailey, no other candidate, prepares his gameplan and players so well against the opposing defense. Cameron HAS a gameplan and he sticks to it 16 games. He builds an offense that WILL work, he isnt ready to work with an offense that is outright overmatched by the defense.
Gailey and Schotty work well with struggling offenses and are more creative within a conservative fashion, but Schotty is younger, much much younger than Gailey and has better potential, so I prefer Schotty, though if it where up to me I would be fine with either Gailey or Schotty.

Well said Joey, well said.

Hes a great play caller.

But he hasn't amounted to anything that Cam Cameron hasn't.

Caps you know I am a B. Shottenheimer fan and I want him to be the Fins HC but are you related to him ? Whats the deal here. Wait a minute, is this Brian himself lobbying for the HC job? If you are Brian you get my vote. :dolphins::sidelol::dolphins:

Cam IS good, he just doesnt adjust as well to the opposing Defense as Gailey or Schotty, Cameron pretty much sticks to HIS gameplan wether he is playing the Vikes (Top rushing D, dead last pass D) or the Colts (Top passing D, dead last rushing D). If its a vanilla D, aggresive D, doesnt matter, Cams teams, go out and execute a gameplan, based on THEIR team, THEIR philosofy and THEIR strengths, he isnt trying outsmart the D, IMO a creative OC has a higher ceiling than a guy who built his offense and sticks to it...

I'm still big on Cameron & Whisenhunt, but I must admit the idea of lil' Schotty as the new Phins' HC is starting to grow on me...

Now that definitely sounds like Gailey. We pounded the Colts in the playoffs with Lamar Smith 40 times and won in overtime. The next week we apparently thought the Ravens defense was identical so we tried the same thing. Didn't work. I waited to see even an ounce of creativity to shake things up, but we just kind of slinked our way through the game and out of the playoffs 20-0. Bleh.

Nope, if you all want to know the truth, the reason why I've been pimping Schottenheimer since Saban left, before he was even available, the answer is simple and boring.

I started thinking about who would make a good HC as soon as Saban left. I was distraught and I wanted someone very different from the last string of unsuccessful HC's we've had(big-name, defensive, established guys). I wanted a young guy with fresh ideas, preferably offensive minded.

I started looking at OC's and Brian popped into my head quickly, he fit all the criteria. I looked at his bio expecting to be left disappointed but came away impressed. He had been around NFL coaches since he was born, and he had learned from the likes of Steve Spurrier, Cam Cameron, Dick Vermeil, Marty Schottenheimer, and now Mangini. He had developed Drew Brees AND Philip Rivers. He was an NFL guy as well as a Florida guy.

Then I wanted to know more about him, I read articles and watched games and saw how he adjusted his system to his players strengths and produced a playoff-caliber offense with severe talent limitations.

That's when I put him in my avatar and started posting about him. I sent e-mails to Dolphins HQ imploring them to give him an interview. My idea was originally met with skepticism and some on here even thought I was joking. Overall, I was probably the only guy who wanted him for at least several days. Yada yada yada, I began to convince people and the Dolphins brass might even have taken my e-mails into account, and here we are today, where the Schottenheimer detractors are now a small minority on here and most are excited about the prospect of Brian as HC. I'm actually proud that I sort of "discovered" him:D

Well, basically you're looking at a difference in age. Obviously the younger guys going to have a more aggressive approach when it comes to out smarting defenses. Also, Schotty HAD to outsmart defenses because his offense wasn;t talented enough to win the game just based on x's and o's.

Cameron however, has not had to outsmart opposing defenses. Hes a traditional play caller, and his players are obviously very talented. He's older, and his formula is proven in NFL. He does make adjustments though, there just not as drastic because, they dont have to be drastic.

The week after we ran Lamar into the ground against the Colts we played the RAIDERS and not the RAVENS and we lost 27-0. WE looked good on the first drive but Fiedler was picked by Tori James and it was returned something like 80 yds for a TD and from then on it was over.

I would have to call this a very well written post. I think so long as we continue in our current path, we will have an offensive minded coach up in here and that added to our defense(with a few minor tweaks) will put us at least back in playoff contention.
